‘Twas a bit dry for me

I knew it was going to be a struggle getting through this drama when I fell asleep on the last 20 minutes of the first episode. Basically, all of the points I give this drama are for the action. It’s a solid action drama but the storyline and FL are DRY! Most boring FL ever! By the end of episode 13, Anna was on my nerves and I was over whatever Ms. Choi’s issues were. The remaining episodes felt like the longest 3 hours of my life! Took me way too long to get through this drama but I couldn’t let this be the first one I dropped. I’m very disappointed that I didn’t care for this drama because it seemed to be a crowd favorite. Bummer.

Two words

shaky cameras. maybe i'm prone to dizziness, but I could not keep up in normal scenes, let alone fight scenes. i squinted through the episodes solely for ji chang wook lolllll yoona's acting was subpar but she has the looks, which in a lot of people's minds makes up for the lack of emotional depth in her character. the real acting is in the evil stepmother, her character had so much potential like heck, she could have ended up with the male lead. but anyhow, really shaky cameras. i watched all episodes on my phone when it first came out and barely made it through them, now that I have a gigantic monitor, absolute nightmare to keep up with.

Watch It

To be very honest this is a drama which you should go into without reading any reviews whatsoever, as this is a drama in which sometimes the villain is sympathetic or a straight-up bitch, the FL is either a sweet, naive girl or an annoying character.
I personally loved the show - the acting, the fights, the romance. Most of it due to JCW but the other FL and SFL also did a very nice job. To those who felt that Anna was annoying - she was supposed to be a naive girl , she was forced to be alone after a traumatic incident and if that doesn't make you a little weird, I dont know what does.
Reading reviews ruins your whole perception of the drama and will make you a little hesitant to watch it, but I will tell you to watch it, beacause this personally was one of the dramas that I loved.

Watch it because of Ji chang wook & action

Just because of Ji chang wook this drama is Worth watching, his strong and badass character is the best part of this drama, Because the storyline was bit too dramatic and Didn't written well after 8 episodes. If we talk about Romance it was great , heart fluttering moments in starting 8 episodes but too short ,I wanted to see more scenes of both leads but it was so disappointing that they didn't get proper screentime, that would be best part of this drama if they had showed more romance. But still I loved it.
Music is the second best thing of this drama.. OSTs and background score was so amazing. At last ,Female lead didn't get proper characterization, her role was fragile but the writers shouldn't ruined her role by ignoring her presence , because in whole drama she was just puppet,at last they should gave her proper screentime.n the end some things remained unexplained . . As for Acting, Everyone did their job perfectly, specially Choi yoo jin , Because according to screentime and character she looked female lead.
I'll say watch it for ji chang wook and amazing action.

ONE OF THE BEST WRITTEN DRAMAS OUT THERE!!!

I AM LITERALLY SO IN LOVE WITH THIS DRAMA. K2 might be my favorite drama of all time. It has the perfect mix of action, political intrigue, drama, and romance, all wrapped up into a brilliant story that will leave you on the edge of your seat each episode. Great job on the writers’ behalf. One of the best-written dramas I’ve seen. Even if action or politics is not your thing this is worth a shot. You won’t regret it!

THE PLOT was magnificent. Upon my first viewing, I found it to be a little confusing but upon my second watching along with the guides from online recaps I understood the story and the characters more deeply than before. Everyone in this wants something and will stop at nothing until they get what they want.

THE MAIN CAST is riveting and I think they deserve much recognition for their acting. It was superb. Some may disagree, but I think Je-ha is Ji Chang Wook’s best role. He literally became the Korean Jason Bourne, and I loved every minute of him on screen. About Yoona, yes it's true that throughout this entire series she only existed as a pawn, but as time goes on she gets better. I think people are too harsh on her acting skills. I mean she's an idol dappling in acting. She wasn't given much, but she went far with what she got. She seems fragile at first, but she can stand her own against her father and the vicious Yoo-jin. Yoona was also able to convey emotions really well. You really empathize with her character and grow resentful for the people responsible for her current state. Je-Ha and Anna had great chemistry, I think it was paced rather nicely. It didn’t make sense for them to fall in love so quickly, as they were both in desperate situations. They were each others’ ally before anything, so I appreciate the events that led them up to the point of having feelings for each other. Seeing JeHa try to control his feelings around Anna was literally so cute. I have two favorite scenes. One was in ep. 4 when K2 was assigned to monitor Anna and he watches her struggle figuring out how to make ramen. He is so shocked that she doesn’t know how to make it that he even considers going out of his way and making it himself for her. Watching him watch her and encourage her was very cute and endearing to me. And given all the pain Anna had suffered it was child-like but somehow humbling to see that something as simple as ramen could make her happy, and JeHa wanted to make her happy, just for a moment. And the second one was in ep. 10, where Anna put on a bit too much makeup in hopes of impressing JeHa. That was funny but in the most innocent and adorable way. Yoona was so naive in the best ways and worst ways. Now, on to the antagonist, Yoo-jin. WHAT. A. PERFORMANCE. Song Yoon-Ha deserves a standing ovation for her incredible acting. SHE OWNS THIS ROLE AND MAYBE EVEN THIS DRAMA. Her character is the most complex and well-written antagonist I’ve seen in a drama. Such a cruel and calculating woman, but it is impossible to just dismiss her as a villain because she is that good. Jang Se Joon was truly a self-serving man. He put his political career above EVERYTHING, including his only daughter who desperately needed him to be there for her. Both him and his wife sold their souls for power and it was just astonishing to see the lengths they went to keep it. He was also a pathetic excuse for a father, he felt some guilt for abandoning his child and leaving her to the wolf(Yoo-jin). His actor's performance in the finale had me tearing up. Yoojin, JeHa, and Anna are really just victims who were done injustices at the hands of cruel people. Those injustices drove them to do what they did, but you never questioned why they did something because you knew exactly why. Except for Yoojin. That lady is plain unpredictable.

THE MUSIC is amazing. This drama has one of the best soundtracks ever. I love how throughout the episodes there’s this underlying opera-sounding music throughout the episodes that sounds haunting but makes the scenes in which it plays engaging. The soft music that plays every time JeHa and Anna have a scene together was just perfect. The music for this drama just made it 10 times better.

I won’t talk about the finale cause I don’t wanna spoil it for potential viewers but just know that it’s explosive. Overall I give this drama a 10/10. I rarely give a drama a 10 because I’m very nitpicky about things but this one really deserves a high rating. The rewatch value is high. I actually just watched this again, only this time I’m making a review about it. It's just as good as the first time I've watched it :) I definitely look at this drama fondly.

A highly enjoyable political-based, action drama! Ji Chang Wook was truly the highlight of this show, & that's saying something given how great so many of the other characters were! Rather than the others in the main cast, I enjoyed most of the supporting cast members' performances even more. The fight scenes were EVERYTHING! Then again, Ji Chang Wook would look amazing just making a peanut butter & jelly sandwich so they weren't risking much there!
I can't stress enough how, if you enjoy fight scenes, you can't go wrong with this series!

Wow! Is this show worth your time? Yes. What makes this show great? Is it the organ or the opera like soundtrack? Is it the choreography? Is it the story or the acting? Here are two : the casting and the ACTION! The casting of Ji Chang Wook as the lead definitely helped. But the casting of Song Yoon Ah is what made this show memorable. Loved the choreography and the fight scenes. They had a lot of cool action sequences. Does the show have some problems? Yes. But the good in the show, outweighs the bad. I just finished watched this just because stayathome during covid20.
Nothing new or so special about the story itself.
But in this drama, Sorry to say I really don’t like the Go An Na character in this movie. She is so naive, so weak, stubborn, It’s just so annoying for me. And it feels not realistic how The K2 suddenly falling in love with Go An Na, Is it just because she is so pretty?
During the movie, to be honest I pro Choi Yoo Jin more than Go An Na even though before I know she is not the culprit who kill An Na’s mom.
And for oppa Chang Wook, his acting is so cool and I think he is so suitable for this role.

Came for him; stayed for them

He’s a highly trained special ops soldier framed for murder and on the run who’s just been hired as a bodyguard for a presidential candidate’s wife.
She’s the illegitimate daughter of that same presidential hopeful who was stashed away in a convent to be kept a secret after her mom was murdered.

When their worlds collide, will it be their downfall or their salvation?

I love the bond that develops between the strong, jaded Alpha ML and the sweet, traumatized FL. They’re complete opposites who fit perfectly together. He protects her from the world; she soothes his troubled soul.

Witnessing the lengths he’ll go to to uncover the truth and protect her is so swoon worthy. Watching her blossom under his care and find her inner strength is beautiful. They’re surrounded by danger and unknown threats, yet find a peace and calmness when with each other - it’s a great portrayal of love blooming in dark circumstances.

The plot and pacing were well done. I was intrigued by all the serious and “big picture” aspects while being addicted to all the sweet and intimate moments between the Leads.

Their chemistry is wonderful. I was rooting for them from their first encounter (and whoaaaa, what a first-meet story!) I’ve rewatched this multiple times because they’re just.that.good together! Be prepared to melt from all the feels… 🫠

[[random opinion: I’ve seen multiple comments of fans who think the ML and the villainess should’ve been the main couple and I just gotta say I do NOT agree. Kind of blows my mind that there’s a whole fandom for those two, haha 🤯]]

Just finished The K2 on Netflix.

Oh.My.God.

I am speechless.

It is now my 6th favorite K-Drama of all time!

An action-packed adrenaline rush with elements of political thriller and sprinkles of romantic comedy.

The epic, choir-heavy, classical inspired music score is the best I've ever heard in a K-Drama!

Action scenes, writing and cinematography were just gorgeous.

There are some notable deviations from K-Drama tradition here: the female lead is the villain in this show, not the love interest (Song Yoon-ah's name comes right after Ji's and she has second longest screen time after Ji), the protagonist and his most of his allies are employees of the villain and most notably, the villain has an unrequited love/attraction to the protagonist!

Acting from the cast is top notch.

Song Yoon-Ah's performance was the standout for me and the best villain I've ever seen in a K-Drama.There are so many gray layers to that character and performance that'll I'll never forget it. She chews up every scene she's in.

Then, we have Ji Chang-Wook, who is a rare gem because he works well in any genre: action hero, romantic lead/heartthrob, comedy, and drama. In this show, he brings charm, laughter and intensity for the serious scenes. His versatility is remarkable.

While the show leans heavily in the cynical realm, there are abrupt, hilarious moments of romantic comedy aided by a classic K-Drama song that will a smile on your face.

There is a scene in the final episode that was so unexpected and beautiful that I started crying. You'll know it when you see it.

The show just blew me away from beginning to end and receives my highest recommendation!

Great but a little confusing at times

The story of The K2 is great. It's just hard for me to invest in it at times as I'm not sure (with some of the characters) how I'm supposed to feel/who I want to root for. Don't get me wrong, the acting and cast was superb, it was just a little confusing as my emotions for certain characters changed episode by episode. The OST also pointed out to me as quite unique for a drama which at times was very gritty. I liked most of the OST by the end, but at the start it actually quite startled me with the selections of songs/music. I feel like I may have rated my rewatch value too high however as this is another drama I am watching during the lockdown, these dramas have an advantage of a higher rewatch value as I have more time to watch them.

The K2 is definitely a solid drama to watch, as long as you are able to get your head around the great but quite-complex-at-times story.
