Dance in the snow

This episode was so powerful and moving. Chae-Rok is in such a difficult spot. He knows Deok-Chul,has Alzheimer’s, but he is not free to let the family know. He has connected the dots and sees the progression of memory loss. So he is following him everywhere to be sure he is ok. His friend had the right idea to just be supportive and let DeokChul call the shots, but at the same time Chae-Rok knows he now needs help. The nemesis is t the complete jerk he made himself into. Under different circumstances, they might have even been friends. He again looks in a bad light but in spite of their clumsy efforts I really think the boys were trying to help him. But in the process of trying to assist they were scaring the crap out of the old man. Chae-Rok show up and the others leave him alone. He read how dancing helped him remember, so he dances his heart out to walk Deok-Chul up. It was so beautiful and moving and heartfelt. And it worked. His nemesis also u de retold and was awed and terrified at what he was seeing. It is such a precarious thing to know one you care about is losing their memory of you. It is an exhausting process to keep them safe and to spend all lucid moments possible with them. The side arc with the daughter is rather sad. When the fortune teller told her she would at least have a son, she never realized that her husband was the son. She has given all her youth to mother the man she married. He was never a true partner and always her child, she just didn’t see it that way. It is no wonder she is tired and ready to give up. Her mother understands and is trying to make up with the man who will be totally lost without her daughter’s guidance. The granddaughter still needs to find the right job because when her interest isn’t there she makes mistakes that makes her look incompetent. It is really more a case of not caring about it enough to really invest all her effort into it. She wants an easy out while she is looking and there really aren’t any shortcuts to hard work and time. I was not expecting the bath scene to be so poignant. It is not a custom I am familiar with but that chat gave Chae-Rok true hope for his future relationship with his dad. That was unexpected and well timed. Chae-rok’s mentor is slowly but surely becoming a more caring person. The youngest son keeps in touch with a work colleague at the hospital. He has not been successful in his initial idea for documentary. He is trying to make peace with a case where he lost a patient. He wants to pay tribute to their life prior to death in hospital. He is accepting that he might not be able to do that, but I think he is going to find a new direction very soon.
