Forgettable. Cheesy. And, Unoriginal.

Let me say that I watched this show MONTHS ago so I might be incorrect on some things.

This show is like a item that you're excited to buy, then realize that the item is terrible and regret buying it. This is EXACTLY what the heirs is.
Depise the story having a great start, the writers wasted it and made this show SO un watchable.
We first have Eun Sung. Not the worst Female Lead but more annoying much, all I remember her character is for crying. That's it. Then there's Kim Tan, honestly they could've made him look more appealing? I like Lee Min Ho but they make him not my taste in this drama. Then there's the average SML bully, Young Do. There's nothing to his character expect BEING a bully. Maybe being a bit funny and sarcastic but that's it. The first episode is Eun Sung going to America to meet with her sister, after that, the sister is not mention anymore?! Like? What? Not even in one other episode? This show is SOOO predictable. Poor Woman Rich Man falls in love with Poor Woman first, second female lead get's jealous as much as the second male lead does. There's NO twists in this show that I haven't seen in other shows. That's how bland this show is. I respect opinions but people who give this higher than a 9 are down right crazy. I say this to even be worse than Boys Over Flowers.
The Acting wasn't that special at all, y'know. Nobody screw up which was good but not so special.
The Music, GEEZ. Don't get me started. The SAME track I keep hearing in the background is TRASH. The fact that I even use to like the intro song makes me think about my taste months ago. Boys Over Flowers DEFO had better OST than this trash of a soundtrack.
The re watch value. GEEZ AGAIN! SO LOW! I CANNOT EVEN BRING MYSELF TO REWATCH! I mainly want to re watch because of all the main leads but it's so hard. So much scenes are useless to even re watch, the only scene I can bring myself to re watch is one of Episode 9's ones with Kim Tan and Young Do. And let me just say that I can even re watch Boys Over Flowers, the show with low ratings on this website. I think it proves my point on this show's re watch value.
Regardless, I wouldn't recommend, this show get's me somewhat mad after thinking about re watching it for even 2 minutes.

I read 1 good review & abundant of bad ones of this show, yet end up loving it.

Despite the flaws, I could enjoy it, & what I like the most from this show (so I’m willing to rate it high) are:
1. I can feel & sympathize with most of the characters.
-Tan: I hope he can get his freedom with his mom & Eun Sang, also be kind with Won.
-Eun Sang: as the only poor/normal person in this show, I just wish her a normal & happy life with her mom & Tan, but I know the wall between her & Tan is too high to climb.
-Young Do: he has chemistry with Eun Sang, but I ship them to be friends instead of couple. Besides his ‘habit’ of bullying, he has that side of sad boy, that’s why I want to see him happy & heal his wound. I love Young Do & Tan’s friendship & its dynamics, like love & hate rlship, but deep in their hearts, they understand each other very well.
-Chan Yeong & Bo Na: they’re cute couple. At first I thought she’s annoying, antagonist, but turned out she’s kindhearted, that’s why she’s perfect with Chan Yeong. They’re the ones who Eun Sang can rely on.
-Hyun Joo: she’s pretty & kind. I ship her with Won, she’s such a supportive & selfless GF. But I also ship her with Hyo Shin, LOL.
-Won: his being jealous, cold, harsh on Tan is reasonable for me. I’m glad this siblings finally comes to an understanding.
-Hyo Shin: another boy from rich family that I sympathize with. He’s kind, calm, logical, & deserves love. He’s best friend with Tan & I like it.
-Myung Soo: the brightest & the silliest character, the most fun to be with. I can say he’s the only one that I don’t need to worry.
-Tan’s mom: surprised that I can sympathize her. I just wish her freedom from that family & I’m glad Tan can make a move to stand for her mom.

With me being this attached to most of the characters, I can see why this drama be that popular, why LMH & PSH be fav couple, why the other casts also grew their popularities. (I saw a clip of “The Judge from Hell” interview with PSH & KJY, I was surprised that “Kim Tan” was mentioned there, like, is Kim Tan & Cha Eun Sang that popular?? The most popular of PSH’s co star?? Now I get it).

2. Also love the dynamics/storyline, ups & downs of each character. I even enjoy & accept the ending for each character. Some are happy, some are realistic. It’s ok. They all deserve it.

3. Last but not least, I enjoy the love story between the leads, their ups & downs is really something. It’s my 1st time seeing Lee Min Ho, also Park Shin Hye. I think I started to like PSH, will try her other dramas.

Overall, to me it’s a heavy drama, melodrama. I need to stop twice to finally finish it. First, in ep5. Like I wasn’t ready to watch the bullying in a hi-so school, what kind of life Eun Sang will face when she gets there. Second, in ep17. Like why the problems are getting more complicated like there’s no way out. I needed to watch anything light to refresh my drained energy, LOL.
Overall this drama tells about rich families with their typical problems. Yes it matches the title “The Heirs”. Tan & Won’s family, Young Do’s, Rachel’s, Hyo Shin’s. Wealth, position, heirs, greed, unsincerity. With all of those negativities, it’s good that they show us the side of human from the “antagonists”, like Chairman Kim, Young Do, Rachel, Rachel’s mom, etc.
I keep thinking “ooh, how childish” when Tan, Young Do, Rachel, etc deal with their problems. But in the end, they’re just 18, rich, & spoiled. It’s just normal for them to act that way. Another thing, I’m okay with Eun Sang’s character. She’s just a normal girl who wish a normal life. It’s normal for her to avoid any kind of dramas around her. Also normal for her to be hesitant in dating Tan. But I’m glad she finally can show her feeling, support, sincerity to Tan, & fight together.

I was warned by a couple people to avoid this drama but how could I when it has such a stellar cast?
My tastes in drama are not common and I am totally fine with not “fitting in” the norm or being a “garden variety” watcher.

The story is very simple, 2 rich boys like poor girl, rich girl likes one of them, big show of haves and have nots, we’ve seen this before.
What is it that really captured my attention? The characters! How damaged they all are no matter how much money they have. Great backstories and character evolution, nice romance and a big kudos to the actors for making this work with such a weak plot.
I’m not crazy, but the 9/10 I give it is based on my feeling, I guess this will go as one of my guilty pleasures ?

I hated Choi Yeong Do and loved everyone else.

So Heirs was one of the first kdramas that I watched. I just started watching it again and I have to say that I have found out that what I am about to say is an unpopular opinion that not many people share hence its unpopularity. I hated the character of Choi Yeong Do. I could not sympathize with him. He was such a jerk. Even knowing how he turned out that way, I still couldn’t like him throughout the series. I loved Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang together. That was young love. My favorite characters were Bo-Na, Yoon Chan Yeong, Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang. I loved those two couples and how different they were from each other.
Even after Choi Yeong Do admitted his feelings for Cha Eun Sang, I still wanted to punch him in the face. Ugh it was so frustrating that I could do it. Choi Yeong Do was such a toxic and abusive character and I don’t understand how everyone loves him except for the fact that the actor is cute. WHATEVER!!!!!!
I understood Kim Tan and his love for his brother and feeling so hurt and trying to hard to get his older brother back. I hated that Cha Eun Sang kept running away.
I really enjoyed this drama as my introduction to the kdrama world because it was in 2013. These dramas are different today and it is nice to see the evolution.

Heirs is one of the classic K dramas that one who's a fan should watch. Well, I can see why: 1) the plot is about a wealthy but with bad background guy who falls in love with a poor girl, who is also his maid's daughter. You can guess the problems that will occur because of their relationship, and yes, they all happen. But at least the girl didn't play they oh so mighty protagonist who wouldn't even bat an eye on his father's threats. 2) the love triangle was between two of the most popular Korean actors, Woo bin and Min ho 3) the rest of the cast is consisted by popular idols 4) the beginning is set in California and their meeting was really clever Okay, so it's a good drama and even the fact that it was 20 episodes long didn't really matter, as it was quite interesting up till the end. And I've got to say, I never like Woo Bin at the beginning of his dramas, but end up fangirling over him... His character was very interesting and even if the love triangle was weak, because clearly the girl had no interest in him, it was nice to watch the two boys fighting over their past. However, there were some parts that I didn't like: - it reminded me of Gossip Girl, especially that jealous Rachel girl was way too Blair Woldorf - the poor girl-rich boy scenario had no twists in it - the romance had no passion, maybe because there was little chemistry between them - most of the students didn't look like students So, 5 out of 10 for Heirs.

am i spite reviewing because the top reviews are bad? maybe. am i still right? yes.

hi, hello, and welcome... to the most fun you can have watching a drama if you get down off your movie critic high horse and learn to love yourself. is this drama cliche? yes, most definitely. does that mean it's bad? no, you absolute sticks in the mud.

first things first let me tell you what i'm looking for in a drama and why the heirs is all of those things and more:

-i, personally, cannot stand when girls in dramas are the first to fall in love with the (usually cold and aloof) boys, and then we as viewers have to suffer her trying to win the boy over for numerous episodes and everything sucks. i find this unrealistic since women are queens and i, personally, immediately fall in love with them. thankfully, the heirs has my back, and our main boy tan is in love with eun sang from, like, ep 2 or 3. we stan a king with good taste.
-a realistic love triangle. now, any time a drama is like "here is a rich boy. here is a poor boy. here is a poor girl. poor girl has to pick between them" i'm over here pulling all my hair out because Whomst Is Trying To Marry The Poor Boy; Girl Get That Coin. anyway, the heirs never bothers with all that and gives us a "triangle" with two rich boys. thank you generous queen. (i hesitate to call it a triangle since she never expresses interest in one of the boys; he just likes her... but in kdramas the girl's opinion hardly matters i guess)
-a good beta couple/secondary couple. every review sings the praises of them so i won't harp on it but dear god in heaven they are the best thing ever maybe. love them. amen.
-a happy ending!!!!! who is trying to be sad after investing all that time!!!!! the ending is happy. i love it. so good.

okay now to address the Critics of this masterpiece of a drama:

-a common complaint i see throughout the reviews is that the storyline... goes nowhere? or makes no sense? or something? i loved the storyline, it never bored me, and the point of it all really resonated with me. to me, the story was fundamentally about children who had been broken down by the world/their parents/their circumstances and were just desperately trying to find love or meaning somewhere out there. there's an extended metaphor around this fake drawing of a dead body that keeps being graffitied on the school grounds which i'm just so enraptured by. if you just sit and think about the story for more than the ten seconds between episodes, you can see the meaning and how it maybe affects other children who are stuck in impossible situations or loveless families. anyway that's just my Two Cents.
-another complaint is that there's no chemistry between the leads. unfortunately i cannot give the blind sight. there's chemistry. goodbye.
-'eun sang is boring' or 'eun sang cries too much.' first of all, accusing a girl who works several part time jobs while also attending school, whose sister vanishes to america, whose mom can't hold down good jobs because she's mute, who keeps getting bothered by rich boys who she doesn't want to be bothered by, whose life keeps getting turned inside out at every turn......of crying.....too much.......is a little, hm, Sexist. just saying. anyway, if you think a GIRL (literally....an underaged child) who does all that, gives back sass as good as she gets it, stares down millionaires without fear, and has an incredible capacity for warmth, forgiveness, and love is boring then i literally have no words for you. eun sang deserves the world; i would die for her.

anyway to make a long story short i love the heirs and critics of it can choke. i've seen it maybe ten times by now. I Know What I'm Talking About. thank you for your time. go enjoy your non-cliched terrible dramas while i love this very good one. bye.

The Heirs was one of the most popular shows in the year 2013. The main lead Lee Min Ho bagged several awards for his performance and also won the Baidu Feidian Best Asian Actor Award that year. Additionally, the lead couple Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye won most of the Best Couple Award that year. Considering the categories the show won awards for, I guess I understand what exactly worked for it. As for me, The Heirs was one drama that left me bewildered. I still haven’t understood if I liked the show or no. Since I watched all 20 episodes, it means that it did manage to hold my attention. But in the end, I am still left wondering what made me stick till the very end. It definitely wasn’t the Original Sound Track (OST). Then, what was it?

Good Weights
Good-looking Cast – I think I should stop mentioning this point because this is common for almost all Korean shows. A good-looking cast is the USP for most Korean dramas. If not the cast then, at least, the male protagonist has to be extremely handsome to appeal to its target audience i.e. young girls. The Heirs does indeed score high on a cast full of eye candies. Lee Min Ho (Kim Tan) is an Asian heartthrob and has a huge fan following across Asia. It is said that The Heirs was in the news after Lee Min Ho was finalized as its lead. Fans kept a tab on minutest of development in the show.  The female lead, Park Shin Hye (Eun Sang) is one of the most successful Korean actresses and has a loyal fan base of her own. Together they made a very interesting couple.

Competent Supporting Cast – The subplots of the show were reasonably interesting and the supporting actors did a marvellous job with the limited screen time they had. I simply loved Bo Na and Chan Young’s love story. Bo Na was the show stealer and her easy chemistry with Chan Young was really enjoyable. Kim Tan’s arch rival Choi Young Do’s gradual growth with each episode in the show was also very interesting. His character seems to grow on you and you eventually start liking him despite his rotten ways.

Amazing Outfits – Since the story is about rich kids, the cast flaunted some chic and classy outfits. Rachel Yoo’s (Kim Tan’s fiancee) wardrobe was the best amongst the girls. Sadly, the female lead was the daughter of a housemaid so she could not sport expensive dresses and jackets.

Bad Weights
Cliched Storyline – If the show was talked about then I am sure it must have been majorly for its cast because the storyline did not have much to offer. It is the same old rich boy falls in love with a poor girl, defies his family for her and they live happily ever after. There are viewers who still enjoy the Cinderella concept but it can be a drag sometimes.

Too Many Subplots – Though the subplots were interesting it could have been a little less chaotic. There were too many characters and each of them had a back story. I would often get confused trying to link the stories together. Most of the time I would be wondering who is marrying whom, who is whose mother, who is having an affair with whom and so on.

Pathetic Theme Song – The song ‘Love Is The Moment’ By Changmin would be played each time there was a romantic scene between Kim Tan and Eun Sang. I am sorry to lambast the song but it really killed ‘the moment’ for me. I wish they played some other song (actually any other song) instead of untimely hammering “love is the moment” in our ears. It’s really annoying to hear a man scream the same words at a very interesting and awaited point of the show. Actually, the song itself is not that bad. It just did not suit the show.

The show beam balance has an equal number of good and bad weights which means that I enjoyed the show as much as I disliked some aspects of it. It has many special moments that made me go ‘awww…’ at the same time, it also had me go ‘what the heck….’ more than once.

The Heirs is for those viewers who enjoy watching beautiful people fall in love and fight against the world to be together. If you are looking for some sensible power conflict amidst a love story then do not opt for The Heirs because it does not offer you that.

2nd Time watching

It’s time for me to give my feedback. This is one of the first dramas I started watching. The first of Lee Min Ho’s dramas. I fell in love with his looks, acting and his great charisma. After watching THE HEIRS, I started looking for all his other shows.

The Heirs is one of the reason i became addicted to watching Korean and Chinese dramas.

The Heirs is cute and funny. It has a good story line. Even though, I watched this twice I was hooked and couldn’t stop watching it was as if my first time. I cried and laugh like crazy.

Overall, if you are a romantic and has a young soul, I recommend watching.

First, the plot. I can't say much without delving into spoiler territory, but it's a cliche. Does that mean it's bad? Not at all! Although it's a cliche, it's very well done and it also puts its own spin on the lives of the rich, showing us some of the less-than-desirable moments as well as the parts that people dream of.

The show itself has a way of playing with your feelings. There are a lot of lighthearted moments, as well as dashes of comedy and each character has their own underlying development arc. It also shows us a lot of different types of relationship - romantic, family, and friend - and how they all have their own ups and downs.

To add, the cast is one of my favourites. Lee Minho, Park Shinhye, Krystal Jung and Kim Woobin especially - if you like even one of them, I'd suggest this drama solely for that. The soundtrack is also one of my favourites out of any drama (second only to The DOTS). Bite My Lower Lips by eSNa remains one of my favourites from the OST of The Heirs.

So... is it a show that will play with your heartstrings? Most likely. Is it a show that will annoy you at times, or make you cringe? Yes. Is it one full of cliches? Definitely. Does all of that make it bad? Of course not! Obviously, it has it's flaws, but it's a solid show overall and I enjoyed it a lot all 4 times I watched.

I would really recommend this drama to people who enjoyed dramas like The Master's Sun, Lie to Me and Love Rain.

A big surprise

Hey, did I watch the same "The Heirs" that everyone talks sh*ts about? I mean, I've heard some really bad things about this kdrama that made me skip this one for a longggg time, since I started watching kdrama. So I thought this one could be like "Boys over flowers" which I really hated, but, surprising The Heirs was way much better. Although I'm not into Collegial Romance anymore, this one got me. I really enjoyed watching every episode of it. But, I can't bring myself to give this show a review more than 7.0, Here are some some points of the story I liked:

1• Is the story good? > Yeah, it's, pretty enjoyable
2• Is the ML good? > Yeah, for a rich boy Kim Tan was a pretty good ML
3• Is the FL good? > Look, in my opinion she was the best collegial girl (in love) that I've met in a kdrama. Here's why: She's strong, cool, not dumb, and for a 17 years old she was kinda mature when it comes to make decisions. She wasn't the kinda collegial girl who was dumb all the time and be like [Oh! help me! I can't even make decisions by myself. I always need the ML!] She was able to defend herself and was fearless. I don't understand why ppl talks sh*t about this FL bc for me, she was amazing.
4• Do they have chemistry? > Yeah, I've seen Lee Min Ho with better actresses who looked better with him, but this one from this show was good too, as a collegial couple they had a good chemistry

Anyway, I enjoyed 98% of the story but I have my complains:

1• I like how Young Do was able to grow up and regret his actions, but still I can't understand how come he ended up falling for Chang Eun. Kim Tan and her had their moment back at Unided States but what about Young Do? I really don't like when a character doesn't have a reason at all to like other. Idk, for me it was kinda like this: "Oh we need another male lead to create conflict between the main couple so here you go Young Do, start to like her out nowhere"
Really, for me was very uncomfortable seeing Kim Tan and Young Do fighting over Chang Eun bc for me Kim Tan and Chang Eun were always the main couple, I was like: "Boy? What the f you doing? You don't even have the right!"
I don't understand why ppl wanted Chang Eun to be with Young Do at the end when Kim Tan was a really cool Male Lead right from the start?
Although I started to like Young Do, I never shipped him with our Female Lead, not even once, their scenes together would made me roll my eyes.
Anyway, there's stories where I wanted the FL to end up with the second ML, but in this case Young Do wasn't even a option from the start. Maybe if they'd made Kim Tan a boring and "not worth it" male lead than maybe I'd ship them but Kim Tan here was amazing as a man to her, so... Nhe.

2• The Older brother. I started watching this show bc I always curious about it and when I saw that Jin Hyuk would be at this kdrama I immediately started watching it since I love this actor, but wtf was this character of his? Omg! Even though I love him I couldn't stand his character at this show at all. He hated his brother for no reason at all (and I'm sorry but hating him just bc he's a son of another woman isn't a reason for me, I mean, that isn't even his fault!) I felt bad for Kim Tan, he loved his brother so much. Also, his decision at the end, he chooses the company over the woman he loves and he's gonna marry someone else that he doesn't love in order to continue as the boss of the company. Urgh! What a deception, not because he abandoned his girlfriend but bc he chose the same future as his father, living with a woman that he doesn't love. I hate how he chose marriage contract and decided to keep the company instead of leaving everything behind. I can't avoid to think about his future with a woman that he doesn't love while thinking about the other one, how dumb.
I wished that both Kim Tan and him would abandon that sick family and their stupid father.

3• Talking about their father... I NEVER HATED SO MUCH A CHARACTER AS I HATE HIM! He caused conflict between his son's, destroyed the life of THREE woman and all what he cared about was the f company! Omgggg you guys have no idea how much I hate this kinda character bc I know that ppl (sh*t parents) like this exists in real life. I'm glad I'll never see his face again bc I think I started to dislike the actor too! Hahahah. And ofc by the end he ends up sick at a hospital bed almost dying and suddenly everyone wants to forgive all the sh"t he made????? Suddenly just bc the fell sick he deserves to be forgiven for destroying others ppl life? Especially the life of his sons????? I hate this kinda thought, just bc someone is sick it doesn't me this person start to be a saint. I wish he had died at the end

5• And ofc... THAT KISS! I've see a lot of ppl taking about how horrifying was that first kiss of Kim Tan and Chang Eun but I didn't imagine that it was so so so so so BAD!!!!! What's wrong with the actress? What the f was that face of hers? The only one kiss that it felt like she wasn't disgusted to kiss Kim Tan was the last one of the last episode bc every kiss before that she seemed disgusted to kiss him. Oh! Poor girl, it's really a sad thing to kiss Lee Min Ho, I understand you girl :( poor you...

Anyway! There were some things I really enjoyed in the story but there were another things that makes me never want to watch it again, specially seeing how stupid Jin Hyuk's character was on this show.
But! The Heirs was a box of surprises for me, I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Hands down to my new favorite collegial kdrama.

All time favorite drama!!!

This has been my go-to drama since this was released. Watched this for soooo manyyyy times already!! I'll be sharing why I have been hooked to this drama, my detailed review per category shared below -

STORY:
While the plot isn't the one-of-a-kind, unique, full of twist, I loved how each character has their own story, individual pains and challenges that they portray. The story doesn't only revolve around Kim Tan, Eun Sang and Young Do; it also explores the lives of families, businesses and school life. This drama includes everything from light, happy and fun scenes to heavy heartbreaking episodes. Even though I have watched this for so many times already, there are still parts that make me cry. **hahaha, I'm such a cry-baby, LOL** Overall, I love the plot, and I'll never get tired of watching this over and over again.

MUSIC:
MY MAIN REASON WHY I LOOOVVEEE THE DRAMA SOOOOO MUCHHH! The soundtracks in this drama are fantastic! I even downloaded all songs and have been listening to it from time to time. Each memorable scene is paired with the perfect music track, setting the mood whether it’s a happy moment or a tear-jerking one.

ACTING/CAST
I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I prefer the chemistry more between Eun Sang and Young Do. The transformation of a bad guy into a good one because of a girl gives me those romantic vibes. I'm also a shipper for Bo Na and Chan Yeong's relationship; their cute and heart-fluttering moments together have captured my heart. Lastly, the growing closeness of Hyo Shin and Rachel is also an adorable part for me.

This is still my #1 drama, and although I have some other favorites, this will always be my go-to drama that I'll never got tired off.

No Complaints

I'm well aware that I give many dramas a 10/10, and the reason is, if I don't have any real complaints, and I had a good time watching it, then it's a 10/10 for me. This is one of those shows.

I will say that this was the second drama I've ever seen Park Shin Hye (female lead) in and the first one left a bad taste in my mouth. So I did have to overcome comparing her with her character in Pinocchio (who drove me nuts), but she did a really good job of shaking that image for me.

I thought the whole cast was great to be honest, even the obnoxious ones. I'm well aware that Choi Young Do (Kim Woo Bin) is supposed to be especially awful and you're meant to hate him and then slowly come around and maybe even feel a bit sorry for him, but I feel like I wound up liking him before I was meant to. lol. He was just really funny and charismatic.
