A Romance of the Little Forest : Between Blossoms and Silence
🌾 If you ask what makes a drama linger in your heart, A Romance of the Little Forest is a perfect answer. From the moment I pressed play, A Romance of the Little Forest felt like a breath of fresh countryside air. The green woods, the gentle chirp of birds, the trickle of stream water — everything about the setting made me exhale and relax. The drama isn’t flashy; instead, it invites you to pause, look around, and let love grow slowly.🌸 The story centers on Zhuang Yu, a botanist who is a cool, focused person, deeply absorbed in his research, indifferent to fame, social life, or love. Years ago, he unintentionally broke the heart of Yu Meiren, a cheerful, warm girl from the countryside who secretly admired him. Over time, Meiren evolves: she earns a doctorate in ornithology, then chooses to become a fashion blogger to escape the pressure of scientific research. Fate brings them together again in a village called Qingshui, where Zhuang Yu goes for fieldwork and unwittingly stays at Meiren’s family bed-and-breakfast.
🌿From its soothing rural backdrop to the slow-burn romance between a passionate botanist and a vibrant fashion blogger, it’s one of those modern dramas that doesn’t just entertain — it heals.
I feel like I found a little sanctuary watching this. Especially on days when the world outside felt noisy, Meiren’s laughter in the forest, Zhuang Yu quietly tending to his plants, resonated with me.
The title “Little Forest” makes sense: the forest isn’t huge, grandiose, or mythical. It is small, intimate, and personal. It becomes the space where two people carry their pasts in their pockets and decide maybe to leave them behind together.
🌼 And I rarely focus on OSTs, but 好像都一样 (All Seems The Same) touched something deep within me—it makes my heart quietly smile.
🍃 Additionally, there are some less perfect aspects. The secondary plotlines: Some of the screen time goes to supporting couples or side stories, which I found less engaging, because I was mostly invested in Meiren & Zhuang Yu. I saw other viewers share similar feelings. And, if you prefer big declarations, you may feel the romance here is subtle. For me, that’s part of its charm — but it might not be for everyone.
☀️ A Romance of the Little Forest is like a soft-sunlit afternoon walk in a green wood. It’s about quiet growth, warm company, and the kind of love that doesn’t need grand gestures — just presence, kindness, and patience. If you’re in the mood for something healing, then this drama is worth your time.

Bubbly romance
"Romance of the Little Forest" is a delightful escape that has truly won my heart, earning a solid 9/10 in my book. From the very first episode, I was captivated by its charming blend of romance, humor, and warmth. The story follows the journey of the female lead, a bubbly and determined fashion blogger, and the male lead, a reserved and brilliant botanist. Their contrasting personalities make for an engaging and heartwarming love story that unfolds beautifully over time. The chemistry between the main leads is absolutely enchanting. Their interactions feel natural and genuine, filled with moments that made me smile, laugh, and swoon. Watching their relationship evolve from misunderstanding to mutual admiration and love was an absolute treat. The scenic beauty and the soft, romantic atmosphere of the drama create the perfect backdrop for their love story, making it even more immersive and comforting.
The performances of the main leads were spot on. The female lead's vibrant and playful personality brought so much life to the drama, while the male lead's quiet charm and emotional depth made him incredibly endearing. Their journey of growth, support, and understanding felt authentic and relatable.
However, one aspect that slightly dampened my enjoyment was the excessive screen time given to the second lead couple. Their storyline felt dragged out and lacked the chemistry and appeal that made the main romance so compelling. At times, their scenes felt like an unnecessary distraction that took away from the heart of the drama. I found myself wishing those moments were spent further exploring the main couple's journey instead.
Despite this minor drawback, "Romance of the Little Forest" remains a comforting and enjoyable drama that I find myself returning to whenever I need a dose of romance and positivity. It's a beautifully crafted love story with endearing characters, lovely cinematography, and an uplifting message about love and self-discovery.

A beautiful and realistic portrayal of life
This is one of the rarest dramas that got me hooked from beginning to end. It is well written and the acting is top notch.FL and ML - I love watching Esther Yu in all of her modern dramas that I have seen. In this drama, her characters were similar to my own and her struggles with the treatment she received growing up due to her and other people perception of what “beauty” is has made her who she was as an adult. She worked hard to obtain her scholastic achievement to perhaps make up for her perceived lack of beauty (as is in my case). She was doubtful of the intentions of the ML and couldn’t face the world without having her makeup on. Ditto! However, she’s very brave and kind hearted and was able to fall back on her intelligence to bounce back after a break up! I can totally relate to all her experiences in life.
ML - it’s the first time I have seen Vin Zhang as a male lead. Oh my… his good look and acting was one of the best. I found myself smiling every time I watched him and Esther doing their antics as a couple. Some people commented that there were not enough kissing scenes between them. That’s true however the subtle changes in his behaviour towards female lead and his facial expressions truly showed how much he cared for her. When they finally did kiss, it was sizzling hot!
Best scene - when the ML described what beauty is in relation to what he has seen in Yu Mei Ren. WOW!!! The script was written by someone who understands what true beauty is! So deep… and I’m impressed and inspired.
Not so good - too much focus on the second couple. I found myself skipping most of their scenes. However there was something to learn from what they have faced as a couple. In addition, I found the part where the ML simply left the country without telling the FL was infuriating. Yes, they had not declared their relationship, but surely there was enough feelings to merit better communication to stop any misunderstanding!
I highly recommend you watch this drama for its beautiful script and acting by the main couple who I think are suited for each other 🙂 I love the songs too even though I don’t speak the language.
If you have any recommendations on something similar to A romance in the little forest, please let me know. Thanks.

Pride and Prejudice vibes
This drama has been a joy to watch. The character development, even for the smallest parts, was wonderful; the music and little sound effects were perfect; and the locations were so glorious that I just want to go backpacking and find Merien’s Homestay. Wonderful, supportive FL family and so funny! Super slow burn romance, fabulous acting, a story about self worth, with serious Pride and Prejudice feel to it. Definitely rewatchable and recommended. Was this review helpful to you?

Can You Believe An Internet Celebrity With A Botany Professor ?
A Romance Of The Little ForestI believe you will doubt when you’re reading my headline. Why I said that ? Because I’m dumbfounded when watching this drama at first. But when I knew about the storyline, it wasn’t weird at all ~
▫️Main Point
~ A girl crush to a man during her study at a university and she was a nerd, not pretty and just normal person like others (doesn’t have anything special about her).
~ Later, she met him again when she was a totally different (a bit pretty, cute and clever) then she wanted to seek a revenge by making him fell in love with her then dumb him.
▫️Opinions
~ Well, for me this kind of drama was totally my cup of tea! It’s my pleasure to watch and review about this drama. So, let’s do my best (;
~ I love how the writer choose to make story about a girl crush to a man and she was brave to confess her feelings even she knows that she might be rejected. This was rarely happened in the drama. Mostly, the man will have a crush to the woman first.
~ I want to pin a point where she was cute but not too pretty. But when she wore a pretty dress and have a full make up, she was a bit pretty. But then, when she was repeating herself about “she was so pretty”, I think it was so hard to accept that sentence. After all it’s ok I think the writer want to create a confidence in that woman so let’s just accepted it.
~ The plot of the drama was beautiful and a bit cliché as she met him again after a long time. They’re come across together in botanical garden where she mistakenly believe him was her partner in a shoot for advertisement. Zhuang Yu was so handsome, gentlemen and intelligent man which could melted any woman including Yu Meiren. But only Yu Meiren could melt his heart!
~ Yu Meiren was a clever woman since she has a doctorate. She likes to take a photo of birds and keep it in her Weibo during her free time. But she was an internet celebrity who doing a livestream about fashion.
~ Tiantian was a sweet little woman. She was Yu Meiren’s best friend and she also was a sharing friend for Yu Meiren. She will advise her and tell her what she needs to do in other to take Zhuang Yu’s heart.
~ The second lead was just a supporting in this drama. He was handsome but I don’t think we need his character in the show. Literally, he just a fool man and his parts just to make ML a bit jealous lol
▫️Characters Intro
~ Zhang Binbin was a long waited hero and I watched him during he was in Pretty Li Huizhen. He was a handsome and sweet man and he was a good actor. I respect him for being too humble in this industry. He was not arrogant and not too picky. I always want to watch him acts in this kind of drama. He was so professional and too deep in acting the character, Zhuang Yu as I really thought it also was his character outside the drama.
~ Esther Yu was acting as Yu Meiren. No doubt, she was suitable with this character. I admires her for making the drama so interesting and lovely. Even I am not her fan, but I don’t have any comments regarding her acting. She was cute and suitable with this character.
▫️Overall
~ The storyline was sweet and adorable for the audiences. The location of the drama was beautiful as they act at beautiful scenery like tea garden, grape garden and also at beautiful homestay. Others, you also can watch how Yu Meiren flirt with Zhuang Yu and finally she was winning in capturing his heart. Even she was a little bit annoying with her character but she was cute. I think the audiences will like this kind of drama.

On the other hand, Vin Zhang is an amazing actor, and as I said the story would’ve been great to watch if the female lead was played by someone else.

This drama should have been a great drama
I feel like this drama used to have sweet and cute couple, beautiful and warm scenery that can make this drama really good. But, the storyline was a mess. I like Xinxin and Binbin, and I think their chemistry is really loveable, but the storyline between them has no direction. In the beginning, FL planned to pursue ML for revenge, but along the way his behavior was not like someone who wanted revenge, but because she really loved him.
The second couple is a big mess. How could that guy possibly be a CEO with such behavior? And why did they style it that way, I couldn't find the CEO aura. The CEO falls in love with the village girl, should be a good match too! But the storyline is a mess. The way he pursued the girl was very stupid, in my opinion. And how come the girl doesn't know her best friend company?
Even though the storyline is a mess, I can still watch it because I love the interaction between Xiao Mei and Zhuang Yu, and the beautiful scenery about plants and animals. Oh I love their chemistry, I hope Xinxin and Binbin can do another drama together with a better script!

I'VE WATCHED BETTER BY BOTH ACTORS.
After Love Between Fairy and Devil, this is somewhat of a disappointment in what we've seen Esther Yu do. Also Zhang Bin Bin has shown a much deeper capability in acting compared to this. Their OST, however, is cute and my first time hearing Bin Bin's voice. It's really super sweet with great vibrato. All in all, it's a cutesy drama and a sweet little love story. I still adore Esther and her cute little face, and Zhang Bin Bin has far too many great dramas under his belt to let this fluff piece ruin his rep. It's all good.
FYI: This is a warning to other actors who do back to back dramas. If one is excellent, the next one had better be too or it puts a wrench in showing the fans your skills. Esther, be more careful in your choice of drama next time, little one

Vin carried this drama and Esther was along for the ride
First let me say, I didn't have a problem with the 2nd ML/FL, usually the characters provided an opposing view of the main ML/FL relationship. It wasn't that they had more screen time, their screen time was utilized to move their relationship forward, when this didn't occur with the mail ML/GL.I would have rated this drama higher if, A. The ML/FL relationship wasn't dragged out exhausting. Also, Esther's character didn't develop mentally, it is almost like she digressed after episode 29 or 30. She is supposed to be a professor who experiences a serious hiccup in a relation, but still running around whining, WHY?!?!. Vin character became more open and warm, but this series could have been wrapped up in 25-29 episodes. The OST were fine, not spectacular, but when with the mood of the storyline.
The 2nd ML/FL had a much more marture relationship and probably could have been a separate drama.
Maybe C-dramas will get to the point where characters show up in one drama only for their full stortlines to playout in a standalone drama.
Lastly, this drama didnt require the "interference girl" it served on real purpose to the post.
All in all, it is an enjoyable drama and one of the better I've watched this year.

Couldn't stand it
I started watching it because of the rating, reviews and I had liked Moonlight, so I figured I can watch another show with Esther Yu in it. I couldn't stand it. What's up with the whole baby talk all the time. It was unbearable and annoying. Esther made everyone else's acting look better just by being there in the frame and that's how bad it was. I dropped it and decided reality show drama is much better than this. Was this review helpful to you?
More nerd make leads please?
Simple cute fluffy romanceYou can never get enough of such.
Solid acting
A difference from the usual bossy overbearing harrassing male lead with power dynamics to the female.
Breathe of fresh air for a charming guy though aloof that actually is portrayed like a gentleman
And a smart female lead playing dumb so as to get revenge on the guy who once rejected her.
More of a binging show so i advice to wait till its done, unfortunately for me.
But i will be seated as it updates

Love this drama
I am enjoying this drama so far especially because of the ML and FL acting and chemistry. I like the storyline and how they both bring the screen to real life… I love FL adorable presents…. I can easy follow the character and story buildup compared to other dramas… looking forward to more of this adorable couples story as they fall in love… I am also enjoying the funny 😆 momentsThe FL and ML are a perfect couple. The ML will warm up and fall head over heals with the FL. He is just inexperienced and only know science until the FL opens his heart.
Also, like the 2nd couple as well so far…
