Love can really make you lose everything

Boy oh boy ,love is blind.
I feel so sad for the king.
What I learn here is never ever trust anyone when it comes to love regardless of how much you love them always give a benefit of doubt because it can come back to hurt you at the end .

Don't give your all ,even a sister , brother or friend can take that someone you only love .

Only the king had sent someone .this so sad

Don't know what I feel...

Some films try to tell a story of forbidden love. A Frozen Flower goes further: it turns love, power, and desire into an arena that is at once political, sensual, and cruel. Set during the Goryeo dynasty, but conceived through the provocative lens of contemporary Korean cinema, it is a work that unsettles and divides because it doesn’t merely hint — it shows everything, with a visual and emotional force that remains rare even today.

The plot, on the surface, seems straightforward: the King, in love with his commander Hong-rim, cannot produce an heir with the Queen. To secure his dynasty, he orders Hong-rim to sleep with her. What begins as a political duty soon ignites into passion, and from there spirals into betrayal, violence, and revenge that culminate in tragedy. Yet to reduce A Frozen Flower to a love triangle would be unjust: it is instead a drama in which sex is politics, love is a threat, and power becomes a prison.

The film’s strength is not only in the scandal it provoked upon release — explicit sex scenes, in a historical and cultural setting where queer representation was still marginal — but in its courage to render desire itself a battlefield. In Korea in 2008, a film like this could not go unnoticed: too daring for those expecting a simple historical epic, too visceral for those hoping for a romance. A Frozen Flower forces viewers to confront an uncomfortable truth: love, when entangled with power, is never pure, and passion, when it defies the law, is destined to explode.

Joo Jin-mo, Song Ji-hyo, and above all Jo In-sung (as Hong-rim) carry the film with performances that balance fragility and ferocity. Hong-rim is the tragic core: devoted lover to the King, yet discovering in the Queen a desire he cannot deny. He is never just executioner or victim: he is both, dragged into a vortex where no loyalty exists without guilt. The Queen is not a mere political pawn, but a woman claiming the right to love and to desire, and in doing so becomes subversive in her own right. And the King, fragile in his obsession and brutal in his jealousy, is a figure of authority collapsing in on itself: unable to separate his reign from his heart.

The King’s castration of Hong-rim, the brutal punishment for betrayal, remains one of the most harrowing scenes in recent Korean cinema. It is not just physical violence but a symbol: the condemnation of love that dares to defy order. The tragic ending seals the idea that in a world ruled by laws of blood and succession, there is no space for love born outside its confines.

And yet, amidst such cruelty, the film preserves an almost hypnotic aesthetic power. The sumptuous costumes, the elaborate sets, the cinematography that caresses both bodies and blades: everything constructs a world both sensual and suffocating. Beauty itself becomes a mirror of feeling — beauty that, precisely because forbidden, is destined to freeze and shatter like a flower in ice.

Why does A Frozen Flower matter? Not only because of its story, but because of the cultural context in which it appeared. In 2008, BL narratives in Korea had not yet entered the mainstream; queer stories were still pushed to the margins, and almost never told with such explicitness. Director Yoo Ha chose instead to film without filters, bringing homosexual desire into the center of a historical epic. Not as subtext, but as declared text. In a cinematic culture often hesitant to go so far, this remains a radical gesture.

A Frozen Flower is not a perfect film. At times it leans too heavily into melodrama, at others it indulges in spectacle. But it is unforgettable: disturbing, sensual, tragic. A story that offers no redemption but shows how love — in any form — becomes explosive when it collides with the boundaries of power and morality.

I don’t know if this film left me with more anger or admiration. I only know it reminded me that feelings, when bound to structures that seek to control them, rarely end well. A Frozen Flower is exactly that: a work where beauty coexists with brutality, where love is always political, and where flowers, no matter how dazzling, inevitably break when frozen.

This Korean bold and intense sageuk was an extremely profound yet nerve-wracking experience for me. I wasn't even breathing in some parts of the movie. The king of Goryeo, more or less very cruel, because that's how it had to be in history to stay in power, from the Koryo dynasty (after which Korea got its name) is homosexual, has a princess from the neighboring kingdom of Yu-an (Yuan) as his wife, and has fallen in love to Hong, the young commander of the Kunryongwe Royal Guard. The Guard is blindly devoted to the King for life and death, and so even Hong completely submits and submits sexually to his King. But the heir to the throne, the descendant, the heir, is still not on the way, because the queen is without conjugal sex, which her husband and wife are not capable of. That's why the King orders his faithful lover and friend (even if he doesn't want to) to impregnate the Queen at night. This is where the whole story actually begins.
I think the film will not be for everyone, after all the style of East Asia is quite different. The film is about love in various forms (true, extremely obsessed, devoted, about friendship) and is very raw, cruel, erotic (but deliberately for the sake of expressing lust, not aimlessly, the whole work is a hundred times deeper than just sex). Excellent design, traditional Korean music, beautiful, which helped to understand individual scenes and characters' feelings, processing. The actors had to undergo demanding training in fencing, fighting, riding horses or playing the traditional Korean musical instrument geomungo. The story and the hardships of the main characters ate deep not only into my soul, but to the core of my bones. I thought I couldn't come across anything that strong for me here at GT. And lo and behold, a film that was unforgettable for me, sad and, in the end, scary, and on other world servers with a high rating, it hit me so hard. I'll get back to him soon ... (well it already happened, I lasted one day)

Proto Král nařizuje svému věrnému milenci a příteli (i když ten nechce), aby chodil královnu v noci oplodňovat.

The most overrated piece of garbage.

I mean none of the characters are anything to link or relatable and the acting is literally just the worst.

I'm sure these actors must have gotten better now but this is just like the worst thing acting wise which is why whatever skin ship there was and I feel like people are liking it merely because it's Korean and with gay characters. I mean some people have acted in it who are popular now so people think this is good I guess I don't know.

Personally, just watch the Lee Joon gi movie, The King and the Clown, that one is just perfect!!! Ten star rating perfect.

I thought the story was very interesting. A King grooming young men to serve him while he falls in love with one of those young men which ultimately leads to his downfall and both of their deaths.

This is the first thing I've watched with the main cast and Joo Jin Mo was fantastic as the King. He offereed his favorite general and lover to his Queen so that she would produce an heir and this sets in motion the tragic Shakespearean aftermath that follows.

Hong Lim, the King's favorite beds the Queen at the King's request. He does so reluctantly at first but then he starts to have feeling for the Queen, be its lust or love (bad idea). The Queen being touched by a man for the first time experiences that euphoria you get from sex and intimacy which she wasn't getting from her husband falls for Hong Lim. Everyone behaves poorly and the King's jealously is his ultimate undoing.

Overall, a good movie. I gave 7/10. It was almost an 8 but while I thought the first 80 minutes were well done, the last half of the movie was a bit too sloppy.

This movie was such a roller coaster

I love how intense the sex scences is.such a roller coaster i had butterflies in my stomach the whole time especially when hong rim kissed the queen it was such a sincere response... what i didn't understand was why did hong rim have sex with the king if he didn't love him. Was hong rim just following the kings orders to have sex with him? I did not fully understand the ending and i want to know what happened to the queen. now im left with empty feeling i hope a sequel will be released . overall I didn't expect to like this movie as much as i do

Me surpreendeu

Comecei a assistir o filme pelo Jo In Sung, do qual me tornei fã após assistir That winter the wind blows, sem ter nenhum conhecimento prévio sobre a trama e, my God, fui totalmente surpeendida!
