Despite its flaws, nice series, worth watching again... just for Ding Yu Xi, who sparks here !!

Very good Rom-Hist with Ding Yuxi

PLOT: On 1 decree issued by the Dowager Empress - Regent to balance the powers within the Court, The FL (lawyer, who works for the Justice Department marries The Wight Gosht (ML, terrific, overseeing the security of the Capital), in place of her sister who has already a lover. The beginnings are full of mistrust (spy? Bad guy?) but the couple falls in love over the course of their adventures. However, they must face multiple obstacles: power issues, conspiracy, rivals, Great Villain, Evil sect, etc.

+++ This series shows a magical Ding Yu Xi. He has matured, gained a little weight, and shines with beauty and charisma
♡o。.(✿ฺ。 ✿ฺ). Wow, what an evolution compared to his first roles!
+++ Deng En Xi embodies a very beautiful but very young FL. Her interactions with ML sometimes lack depth. I'm waiting to see how she will grow as an actress.
+++ The production is efficient and dynamic. The costumes, sets, framing, etc. are magnificent.
+++ The characters are endearing, extremely well played, with their qualities, their faults, their humanity. Like many wievers, I love the FL's mother.
+++ The OSTs are excellent.

### The story is very focused on power struggles and succession. Some points are very debatable (Regency by the Grandmother??)
### The character of the half-crazed Great Villain is very excessive (even if it is beautifully performed). The Evil Sect is weird, and the connections to the Great Villain are full of plotholes.
### The character of the best friend, supposed to be there for humor, is UNBEARABLE!

=> Despite its flaws, nice series, worth watching again... just for Ding Yu Xi, who sparks here !!

***************************************************************

+++ Les OST sont excellentes.

Watched on 2x speed lol

I may have cheated bc i watched sm scenes on 2x speed and also skipped a few scenes lol. In my defense, the plot was really predictable. There were no suspense and build up to anything really. And i had ni trouble understanding in the end so...

I really just watched this for Shen Du and Liu Niang. I watched almost every other scenes on 2x speed starting episode 10. The mysteries are just not that good, I wish they were more stand-alone types instead of this forced connection to the over all mystery plot which is not really a mystery when the villains are revealed halfway through. Even the ending arc is so clichéd. Wanting a divorce to keep her safe as if everyone don't see how much they're so in love with each other, the divorce is a non issue. They still know they can hurt him through her. And who would even believe he wanted a divorce and then side with the villain. Even the villain can see through that, so there was no shock when everything was revealed.

I know the leads have a big age gap irl but I really liked their chemistry here and I just have to force myself to forget that fl is only 19 🥲 bc I really liked their characters here. I love that Liu Niang is very smart and also very fun and could be aggressive if situation calls. Not to mention very brave. It makes up for Shen Du having to save her all the time. And she also got to save him a few times.

So despite my many complaints, I loved the leads and I am very easily entertained so 8.5/10. Would probably rewatch.

almost on par with LLTG

This review contains not only spoilers, but also huge ranting over the romance aspect of the show. I need to get it off my chest otherwise I wil combust. This couple has driven me insane. I am a really really picky viewer when it comes to chemistry - and they managed to nail it in every. single. way.

I almost dropped it during the first 3-4 EPs. Mystery/detective work/politics are not so much my cup of tea BUT the chemistry kept me going (+ the soundtracks also did). So glad I decided to continue. What a ride.. i laughed, cried, smiled, flipped the table, bit the couch and so on.

My most favorite part would be around EP4-5 until EP25. Yes - the slow burn. The perfect wonderful genuine top form slow burn. This is how it's done. I never went so this nuts since LLTG. Whoever is in charge of casting Yuxi and Enxi, i hope you are having a very very good day always.

The story is not flawless. Some editings are weird. Some plot lines dont make sense (or i might be too dumb to understand). Minor things here and there in this show might make me feel like hmm its not so good BUT once the soundtrack starts playing and the couple are on screen - nothing matters. This show is very good and they are so beautiful. They make me genuinely happy.

The supporting characters also have great effect on me. Esp Jing Lin.. my poor poor man. Bro wakes up and works hard every day. Madam Xu also works really hard while looking graceful and superior all the time. Idk why exactly did the 3rd couple have to die.. i got quite sad. Cant mention them all but each role really did a great job.

Yuxi and Enxi must reunite in a modern rom-com / melodrama / or just ANYTHING PLEASE. Do these two even know how much power they hold!?!

If you read until here, and you are a big fan of romance (esp slowburn), and you want a sign to start/continue this show, DO IT OTHERWISE YOU WILL REGRET. One of the best I've seen so far in terms of romance. I'll now end the review and go rewatch it.

ps. have i mentioned the 'its you, its always been you' trope? oohh its so well-executed. chef's kiss.

Fantastic chemistry between two lead characters! :)

The first few episodes were a bit hard to watch as I found Shen Du somewhat misogynistic and rude to Yan Xing. BUT having said that, the plot settled into a nice rhythm and the series seem to have found a nice pace. I feel that the second half is much better watching! Not a perfect series by any means – some glaring plot holes and improbable scenarios. If you just suspend disbelief, it’s okay! It’s meant to be light entertainment!
Great chemistry between ML and FL, fairly engaging plot and decent acting all round. I really enjoyed it! :)

Great Leads who know how to deliver

I started off the show was not interested in ML as I've seen him in other shows and was not a fan, but this has got to be his best work. He is fantastic in it. He killed the role and had this overall presence that made the show fantastic. FL, there's also someone I've not seen before, but I loved her in this role and want to see her on more shows.
Overall, the plot was good. There were some confusing and annoying moments, but you must stick it out to the end. One confusing moment, for example, would be how he got night blindness, and then she recklessly healed him with medicine, but then it was never talked about why he got the night blindness and when he got healed. Not gonna lie. It was entertaining, and I thought it was really cool how, when some people were attacking people, they killed themselves and then just started showing off their skills like a ninja. Taking away the night blindness ruined that whole moment for him. An example of an annoying moment would be when we had an extra character, Pan Chi, who was secretly FL's pen pal. FL thought he was a woman but was really a man who was in love with FL. The most annoying part of this character is that he would randomly pop in and out of the show. For example, if he's going to disappear, can he stay gone?
While they only got back together in the last 20 minutes of the show (which irritates me), they still got back together, so I will take that as a win.
While some people may say she shouldn't have gotten back together with him, she obviously was still in love and cared for him even if she rejected him. So, is she supposed not to be with someone just because they upset her? And he did it for a good reason, a terrible situation, but he did have his reasons.
I wish we didn't spend so much time on the queen and her family because, quite honestly, I didn't really care about them. They were just fillers that took time away from my ML and FL.

It has a good script and the acting is good
The fight scenes are well done and the cinematography is excellent
Ancy Deng & Ding Yu Xi Both of them are eye candy
I like to see them in Modern Genres--> Business, Romance Drama 🎭
Be patient don't lose your temper
Because screenwriter writes the scene is good and fast enough for this story but for viewer's
It makes us to eager to know what's going to happen next 💞😥

This was a fun ride!

Binged this one in three days and haven't regretted a single minute of it. Can't deny that I will always fall for the "enemies to lovers" trope.

The introduction of every important character in the first episode was very strong and I might have been a bit too impressed with it, expecting the rest of the drama to be flawless. That was not the case. But those were just visual edting issues (weird fast scene switches, plastic petals) and had nothing to do with the story itself. On the other hand the drama also presented expressive camera settings and cinematography with vigorous intentions. And damn, well selected, beautiful, detailed costumes! I loooved the winter edition.
The plot, the twists and the overall mystery were through and through enjoyable - of course, it had its ups and downs with the suspense but the calmer moments were compensated with sweet interactions between the leads.

The cast was phenomenal. Ding YuXi, the ML, exceeded my expectations with his performance of a cold-hearted, cunning military officer, never showing his true intentions, reducing his facial expressions to a minimum, yet still able to tell the viewer what's going on. Every move, every gesture and powerful stand demonstrated grace and dignity. A big part played his deep voice, too. There were alot of different facets. From authoritarian to collected, steady and soft. Most times calm, seldomly loud, but even then it was composed, never jarring.
Ancy Deng, the FL, played a really good counterpart, never letting her other half down, never inferior to Ding YuXi either. Displaying a strong woman in pursuing her passion of solving criminal cases and fight injustice. She was fun, never being shy with examining corpses or dashing forward into the next case.

The chemistry between the leads was endearing and on point. And thank god no out of place comediac inserts. They remained in their roles, stayed serious, focused and still managed to show affection, romance, intimacy and light-hearted moments.

But not only the two main leads did a great job, but every other supportive crew member as well. The FL's family, the queen dowager, the princess, the prince, the ministers and all the others. Together they created a convincing atmopshere of palace matters and intrigues. I especially liked that even these supportive characters had more than just one side to them.

The drama will surely stay with me for a while. And even though I almost never cried during my watch, I felt with and for the characters.

If you like enemies to lovers, investigating, mystery this drama is for you!!

Yan Xing is a strong, detective FL and a concubine daughter ( She passed the examination of being a female official of the Ministry of Justice ) and Shen Du is a Caption ( u could say ) of the imperial guards. Yan Xing's sister had a marriage with Shen Du but her sister already loved someone and flee the wedding so Yan Xing decided she will go into her place of the marriage. When they got married they didn't had a friendly friendship at first but they gotten closer when they solve cases and investigate the crime scene. But they met as children ( so basically childhood sweethearts ) and Shen Du had liked her then but he didn't know it was her, but when he found out it was her he started to fall in love with her and Yan Xing also found out and developed a crush for him and they slowly fell in love while investigating different cities but unfortunately they had to go through ups and downs.

-I really like the investigating scene they did
-He fell first, he fell harder

Ding Yuxi did really good in this drama, his acting, sword fighting and his look so good looking!
( My favourite Male actor! )

The drama is better than most dramas lately released. FL was initially annoying but ML was rude as per character. It's worth watching, slow build romance. People should learn to used 2x speed , skip the annoying character in drama as I always do and here with second FL scenes. 😆 Production quality is not tencent level but ML scenes are well filmed and he's kind of cute in later part of drama.

Underwhelming & overhyped Female Detective saved by her ever-capable Husband | Lights ON! *Grins*

"No matter how trivial the detail, or how close the suspect is to you, do not be afraid to doubt them. Be brave and seek verification. Trust could also be a drive for investigation." - Chen Wen (Yan Xing's Master)

More than anything else, what truly baffled me about this story was Yan Xing’s (FL) investigation and problem-solving skills. Although she was highly regarded and praised for her expertise, her performance during those cases was either weak or mediocre at best. I don’t think she ever resolved a single case on her own; most of the time, she succeeded only with the help of those around her—whether it was her Master, her friends or most often, her husband, Shen Du.

Her overall capabilities as an investigator and coroner are average and simply do not live up to her reputation. Watching her receive constant praise for her "excellent skills" felt ridiculous because she wouldn't have solved those cases without her support system. Not to mention, the amount of time it usually took her to reach a conclusion was far from impressive.

On top of that, she lacks social awareness—a crucial trait for any investigator. She is often clueless about her surroundings. It is bad enough that her investigative skills are only at an intermediate level, but they are further hindered by her lack of social connections and situational consciousness. This brings to mind a comment from the Director of the Ministry of Justice below:

"The wives of other high-ranking officials are adept at dealing with people to learn secrets that may be useful for their husbands. Who else would be silly enough to bury their head in files and stay in the morgue all day long?" - Director of the Ministry of Justice

That said, I’m giving 90% of the credit to Shen Du. He does most of the heavy lifting and keeps Yan Xing safe 99.99% of the time. Without his impenetrable protection, our FL would have been dead the second she was targeted by the enemies she offended. He really is a true knight in shining armor!

The plot was interconnected nicely, which helped brew the main conflict of the story. I particularly liked that the focus of the minor cases was related to the main conflict; they didn't deviate into unrelated cases, which helped keep the storyline's buildup on track. Although the plot was well-woven, I have some reservations about a few specific elements:

• Is the sudden off-screening or exclusion of important events. It happened several times; while it didn’t negatively impact the overall plot, it leaves me wondering what actually occurred during those scenes, as the story jumps straight to the resolution while omitting the climax. It was strange because even though the plan had been laid out, we were somehow left behind the scenes—completely unaware of the process and only shown the end result. This really bothered me because those scenes are vital to the plot. Cutting them out left me totally confused, thinking: "What the hell just happened?" (I'm referring to the ending of Gannandao Arc)

• The act of keeping some information hidden in order to use for the climax of the story—I'm referring to Pan Chi discovering that it was Lai Luo Zhi who tricked Saintess Daisi but never mentioned it on his letter to Yan Xing—which didn't get utilize anyways. Like, what's the point of revealing it ahead of time if they're not gonna use? The leads even have to know the truth through Jin Cang (Yan Xing's Musician uncle). What a waste!

• When It took her 14 episodes to realize her husband had night blindness, despite all the clues and their house being excessively lit. Surely that goes beyond just being afraid of the dark. I don't know why it took her so long to figure it out.

• The out of blue sickness of Empress Dowager. It happened all of a sudden that I didn't know if she was just acting because she was emotionally unstable, poisoned or forced by Lai Luo Zhi, or is devising a plan to catch the Lai Luo Zhu. It was hard to determine what was happening with her because she was being extra melancholy those times. I am glad it ended satisfyingly though.

• When Shen Du tricks Yan Xing into another wedding, but this time with a proper Wedding ceremony after she continuously rejects his reconciliation attempts. I find it inconsiderate of him especially after he disregards her threat to cut ties with him if he faced the Empress Dowager alone. I honestly feel like he should have groveled more and exerted more personal effort to win her back. One reason I feel this way is that they off-screened so many of the "winning her back" and "constantly rejecting him" scenes. /Sighs/

Lastly, I was frustrated at first that we were more than halfway through the story and the leads still weren't vocal about their feelings. But then, episode 25 finally happened. Although it took a while to get there, it was worth the wait. I loved the tension and the sincerity of their emotions during the hot spring scene, though the 'amateur-coded' kiss was a bit of a letdown.

P.S. The greatest plot twist of this drama was how genuinely innocent Prince Xian and Grand Princess Runing were. The show did a great job insinuating malice in their actions, only for it to be revealed that they had nothing to do with anything all this time. Job well done!

Story - 9.0, I honestly find the plot build-up to be great. My main issue with the story is the baseless reputation and feats attributed to Yan Xing. She has some skills, I admit, but she is definitely not at the 'expert level' the drama proclaims her to be. It might have worked if they had allowed her to grow over the course of the show, instead of having Shen Du back her up in every single situation. Additionally, I’m dumbfounded by the way they handled certain information; they off-screened, skipped, or omitted several scenes that were crucial to the story.

Acting/Cast - 9.0, I should be satisfied for the mere reason that I discovered Deng Enxi through this show and enjoyed her performance very much. However, I just can't swallow the cringeyness I felt watching some of the supporting cast, namely Xiao Yan and Song Fangyuan. I understand that this is an idol drama, but their performances are simply annoying to watch. It honestly may be their characters' lack of depth that drags them onto my bad side. How I wish they were written a little better. P.S. I just wanna mention how I love Deng Enxi's eyes—viibrant and indulgent.

Music - 9.0, While the soundtrack as a whole was not particularly memorable, I found the insert themes to be quite moving, particularly the music used during the more sentimental moments.

Rewatch Value - 7.0, While I enjoyed the series, it lacks rewatch value for me personally. However, I’d still recommend it, especially for those who follow Ding Yuxi’s work.

Overall - 9.0, The plot is clear, compact, and flows well. While the show over-hypes Yan Xing’s skills and some scenes feel omitted, the rest of the drama is solid and worth watching.

Good….but could have been better!

So this show had the usual tough guy marries a capable girl, they slowly fall in love, and are embroiled in political intrigues around the throne and the royal family. There is nothing new here, but I liked the show for the chemistry between the leads. Ding Yuxi was great as usual, and the FL was a breath of fresh air, good acting skills, and a pretty face. I might have given this show 10 star had I rated it at episode 34. The later episodes felt unrealistic..as in why does a guy who is obviously madly in love with his wife suddenly divorce her? And she agrees too? If it was for the benefit of the villain, I fail to understand how this fooled him, he was shown to be meticulously plotting to get the throne for years, yet he instantly agreed to take help from his arch rival and a super righteous guy? I found it hard to digest frankly. It would have been great had the leads solved the last mystery of the villain together as they did so many times int he series. The music of the series was good. I’m deducting two stars only for the stupid way the story was concluded.

JUSTICE MEETS PARTNERSHIP

The drama follows Yan Xing, a daughter of the Yan family skilled in criminal investigation, and Shen Du, the cold, feared head of the White Ghost, the Emperor's internal security force. When Yan Xing is forced to marry Shen Du to save her family, they enter a tense alliance. Initially distrustful, they soon realize their goals align: solving a string of bizarre, interconnected crimes threatening the stability of the Dacang Dynasty.

Unlike many historical dramas where the female lead is a “damsel,” Yan Xing is highly capable. Her forensic expertise and sharp deductive skills complement Shen Du’s martial prowess, making them true partners. The production value is impressive, from the intricate embroidery of the Dacang (Tang)-style costumes to the moody, atmospheric lighting of the crime scenes—visually stunning. Ding Yuxi and Ancy Deng share a compelling “ice vs. fire” chemistry, with their gradual shift from suspicion to mutual respect and affection feeling natural and well-earned. The mystery cases are engaging and serve as the glue that keeps the political intrigue from becoming too dry.

That said, it leans heavily on childhood connections and hidden pasts. If you’re over the “we met as kids” trope, some parts may feel predictable. Occasionally, the drama shifts abruptly from dark, grisly murder investigations to lighthearted rom-com moments, which can be jarring. In the final arc, the overarching political conspiracy becomes overly convoluted—a common pitfall in 40-episode historical series.

In the end, *Melody of the Golden Age* stands out for portraying its leads as intellectual equals. It’s less of a “fluff” drama and more of a romance thriller, perfect for fans of *The Imperial Coroner* or *Under the Power*.
