A Hidden Gem I Almost Missed
The Unseen is a compact mystery thriller that quietly delivers far more than you’d expect from a short-format drama. The story follows blogger Shen Man, who investigate the suspicious suicide of her sister. When Shen Man deliberately draws attention to herself in order to get closer to the truth, she ends up becoming a prime suspect of a bizarre murder.
Enter Jiang Li, a young police officer who quickly sees through Shen Man’s act and helps clear her name. As the murders continue—each seemingly linked to occult practices and possibly to Shen Man’s sister—the two women are join forces to work together to uncover the truth behind the killings.
Set largely in Thailand, the drama makes strong use of local atmosphere, Thai writing, and cultural elements, which adds an extra layer of authenticity and visual intrigue. For a short drama, the production quality is unexpectedly high: the visuals are polished, the pacing is tight, and the suspense is handled with care rather than cheap shock value.
What truly elevates the drama is the dynamic between the two female leads. Their relationship develops naturally into something deeper than simple partnership. While the drama remains subtle and never explicitly crosses into romance, it is unmistakably GL-coded—handled with restraint, warmth, and excellent chemistry. Importantly, this emotional thread never feels forced or distracting; it complements the investigation instead of overshadowing it.
The acting across the board is solid, and the emotional undercurrents between Shen Man and Jiang Li are one of the show’s strongest highlights. Watching their trust and connection grow alongside the unfolding mystery adds genuine depth to the narrative.
Overall, The Unseen is a true hidden gem. It delivers a well-constructed mystery, strong performances, and tasteful GL undertones within a surprisingly high-quality short format. If you enjoy investigation and mystery dramas with atmospheric storytelling and subtle emotional depth, this one is absolutely worth your time—and it deserves far more attention than it has received.
Can't wait for season 2!🤩
