Shin Shi Ah shares her mother's reaction to an emotional scene: 'She cried'
Alchemy of Souls actress Park Eun Hye candidly shared the realities and emotions of being a divorcee.
In the May 20 episode of SBS's variety show Because I'm Solo, Park Eun Hye was shown spending her birthday with close friends, opening up about her life after divorce, her ex-husband, and more.
She said, "The kids' dad [who is looking after them while they're currently studying in Canada] had a lot of rough edges," and added, "I was worried because I thought he would be very harsh towards the kids, but that isn't the case. I realized that a man has to raise the kids."
She continued, "The twins have different personalities, so it's harder [to raise them] because you can't treat them the same. The kids' dad doesn't make them do things they dislike, which is impressive. That seems difficult, so I'm thankful for that," she expressed her gratitude toward her ex-husband.
"My ex-husband once said, 'Thank you for raising the kids well,' but I felt upset. I wondered why he was thanking me when I'm raising my own children." "Now, I'm the one saying thank you to him. Looking back, I think I was just upset about everything."
When Park Eun Hye said it had been nine years since her divorce, her friends said, "It was really unexpected [to hear] that you divorced. We never thought at all [that you would break up], so it felt strange when you suddenly said you were separating."
In response, Park Eun Hye said, "When I got married, I lived in a villa on the third floor, but after the divorce, I wanted to live somewhere higher up." She added, "The moment I went to see the new place, just being there felt good. At that time, I felt like I had gained a lot of freedom."
However, "There are many downsides to divorce. So when someone says to me they're getting divorced, I tell them not to do it. There are times when you need a husband, and there's also anxiety. As you get older, anxiety about the future seems to come along with it."
Watching this in the studio, Shin Dong Yup said, "You definitely haven't been sitting still for the past nine years." Park Eun Hye joked, "No one lets me stay still."
Park Eun Hye is a veteran actress with about 30 years of experience in the industry. She is well-recognized for her performance in productions such as Alchemy of Souls and Steel Rain. The actress married a businessman in 2008 and parted ways in 2018.
