On January 22, it was reported that Cha Eun Woo had received a notice from the National Tax Service that he owes over 20 billion won (approx. 13.6 million USD) in additional taxes, including income tax, on charges of tax evasion.

Following the controversy, the idol and actor posted a message in January and now has spoken out once again, saying he "has paid all relevant taxes."

This is Cha Eun Woo.

I sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and confusion to my fans and many others due to the recent tax-related controversy involving me.

As various administrative procedures were underway, I had to be cautious in stating my position publicly. I also apologize once again for the delay in conveying my statement.

Although it is late, I would like to take this opportunity to express my thoughts and stance directly.

I respect the procedures and decisions of the National Tax Service, and in order to prevent any further confusion, I have paid all relevant taxes. I will also diligently fulfill my remaining obligations.

As someone who has been able to carry out my activities thanks to the love and support of many people, I take this matter seriously and [reflect on it] deeply. If there were aspects I failed to examine carefully enough, the responsibility for that lies entirely with me. I will not avoid [the responsibility] with excuses such as "I didn't know" or "it was someone else's decision," for any reason whatsoever.

During a period when I was experiencing various changes and uncertainty in my career, I established a corporation as part of preparing to continue my work more steadily. However, looking back now, there were areas in that process that I did not sufficiently oversee, and I believe that responsibility lies not with my family or my company, but with me.

Through this incident, I have realized that I need to take a hard look at myself. Above all, it pains me deeply, and I am truly sorry, that I have disappointed the fans and Aroha [Astro's fandom name] who believed in me.

So that the same issue does not happen again, I will carefully and strictly review all aspects of my activities going forward.

I will continue to make every effort, and more, to become Cha Eun Woo who takes full responsibility for his choices and actions to the very end.

Once again, I sincerely offer my deepest apologies.

Thank you for taking the time to read this long message.
