'Extreme Job' actor Song Young Kyu Passes Away at 55

Actor Song Young Kyu has passed away at 55.

Multiple media outlets reported that actor Song Young Kyu was found dead on the morning of August 4th. He was discovered inside a vehicle on a roadside in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do. According to reports, the Police will investigate the cause of death.

A representative from the Gyeonggi-do Provincial Police Station stated that while no signs of foul play have been found, the exact cause of death cannot yet be determined. An investigation is ongoing.

In late July, it was revealed that the actor had been arrested for a DUI on June 19. According to reports, he was driving home from a gathering with acquaintances in Yongin-si when police stopped him after receiving a tip. His blood alcohol content was above the legal limit (0.08%), which is grounds for license revocation.

Following his DUI, the actor was removed from the play Shakespeare in Love. His scenes in the pre-produced K-dramas, The Defects and  The Winning Try, were also announced to be minimized as much as possible since filming had already been completed.

The funeral for the late Song Young Kyu is being held at the Davos Hospital funeral hall in Yongin City. The burial will take place on August 6th at 8 a.m. at Hambaeksan Memorial Park.

Song Young Kyu started his career in 1994. He is best known for starring in the hit film Extreme Job and the Netflix original K-drama Narco-Saints. 

The actor's last project was the K-drama The Winning Try, led by Yoon Kye Sang, Im Se Mi, Kim Yo Han, Kil Hae Yeon, Kim Min Sang, and Jang Hyuk Jin. 

He was also part of the hit works The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection, Big Bet, A Superior Day, The Penthouse Season 3: War in Life, Tale of the Nine-Tailed, Hot Stove League, Reply 1988, Misaeng: Incomplete Life, Land of Happiness, Pandora, and more.
