IU and Byeon Woo Seok shared their response regarding the circulating reports that they officially turned down starring in Wife of a 21st Century Prince.
On March 28, media outlets reported that IU and Byeon Woo Seok had decided to drop out of the upcoming K-drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince. According to reports, the two actors chose to leave the K-drama due to disagreements about which streaming platform would air it.
IU and Byeon Woo Seok's agencies both responded to the circulating reports. IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, stated, "IU is not leaving the upcoming K-drama. She is currently preparing for it."
Varo Entertainment, Byeon Woo Seok's representative, also denied the reports. They revealed, "The rumors of Byeon Woo Seok leaving the K-drama are false."
Wife of a 21st Century Prince is set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy in Korea. It will showcase the romance between two royals: a conglomerate heiress frustrated with her "commoner" status and the son of a king whose life is transformed after meeting her.
IU will give life to the character named Sung Hee Joo. She is the second daughter of a conglomerate family. Blessed with beauty and intelligence, she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Despite her wealth, her commoner status becomes a significant obstacle in her life, and she eventually becomes entangled with the prince.
Byeon Woo Seok will be Lee Ahn, the king's second son, in the upcoming K-drama. While he holds the title of prince, he possesses little else of material value and conceals his true identity. His life is transformed after meeting Sung Hee Joo.
Wife of a 21st Century Prince will exclusively premiere on MBC. According to reports, the K-drama will begin airing in the second half of 2025.
