The historical K-movie The King’s Warden has become a domestic sensation.

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the film The King’s Warden surpassed 7 million moviegoers on February 27. It achieved the milestone in just 24 days since its release on February 4.

The K-movie achieved the 1-million-admissions milestone on its 5th day, 2-million-admissions milestone on its 12th day, then 3-million-admissions milestone on the 14th day, 4-million-admissions milestone on the 15th, 5-million-admissions milestone on the 18th, and 6-million-admissions milestone on the 20th—riding a wave of support as it enters the trajectory toward 10 million.

Distributor Showbox, via its official account, released commemorative photos and videos of the director and cast celebrating the 7-million milestone. The caption reads, "Thanks to the endless support and box office enthusiasm for Team The King’s Warden, the story of the year 1457 will no longer be lonely," adding, "Congratulations on surpassing 7 million viewers. This success is possible thanks to your love. We sincerely thank all 7 million audience members."

Industry observers are now watching closely to see if The King’s Warden can join the 10-million-admissions club — something no film has done in the past two years, since The Roundup: Punishment.

Set in 1457, The King’s Warden tells the story of a headman who voluntarily makes the village an exile site to revive it and a young, former king who has been dethroned and sent into exile. The K-movie stars Yoo Hai Jin, Park Ji Hoon, Yoo Ji Tae, Jeon Mi Do, and Kim Min.
