Mary Kills People tells the story of a doctor who illegally administers assisted deaths to terminally ill patients and a detective who pursues her.
Kang Ki Young plays Choi Dae Hyeon, who aids Woo So Jung (Lee Bo Young) in administering deaths.
Talking about the K-drama, Kang commented, "It is a scenario that hasn't been explored much before, so I approached it with caution." "There are many kinds of farewells, but I believe a prepared farewell — one that a person chooses for themselves — has a meaning unique to itself."
Kang Ki Young continued, "Since the drama deals with the subject of assisted death, most of the scenes carry a heavy tone. However, I believe the back-and-forth between So Jung and Dae Hyeon played an important role in alleviating some of that seriousness."
The actor also shared his thoughts on the challenges that came with the role: "In the drama, Dae Hyeon might come across as somewhat carefree, but he's someone who has grown through pain. Rather than calling it frivolity, I'd describe it as something that comes from resilience. I believe the synergy created through the characters' relationships has the greatest impact, and the biggest focus for me was figuring out 'how can I maximize that effect?'"
With a touch of wit, Kand added, "Choi Dae Hyeon is still a doctor in the story, but since his license has been revoked and he operates in the shadows, I think there was a bit less pressure when it came to using medical jargon." "Not only does the drama explore a rarely covered subject, but the theme of family also runs throughout it. I hope viewers will empathize with the characters and join us in both laughter and tears."
