Lee Chae Min shares the charm of his character, the tyrannical King Lee Heon, in Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.
Bon Appetit, Your Majesty follows French chef Yeon Ji Young (Lim Yoon A), who time-slips into the Joseon Dynasty, where she struggles to please the palate of the tyrannical King Lee Heon (Lee Chae Min).
Lee Chae Min takes on his first king role since his debut. On what drew him to Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, Lee Chae Min said, "First, the theme of cooking felt interesting to me, and I was drawn to Lee Heon as a three-dimensional character. Also, since it's a project by director Jang Tae Yoo, whom I've long admired, I wanted to do it even more."

He described Lee Heon as "a dynamic character who is unapproachable and recklessly stirs things up like a typhoon. He has an unstable state of mind and a hot-blooded temperament, yet also has an unexpectedly quirky side."

He went on to add a witty analogy: "He's a three-dimensional character who, like yukgaejang, made with meat and various ingredients blended together, has a rough side, but with diverse qualities within."
To portray such a multifaceted character, Lee Chae Min did thorough preparation. "I tried to balance a heavy tone and a light tone so that the dignity that comes with a king's position and a free-spirited nature could coexist. I also gave a lot of input on styling so that my intense gaze would stand out, and I worked to create Lee Heon's own way of responding to given situations."

Talking about his action scenes, Lee said, "I newly learned horseback riding. I also received training in swordsmanship and archery on set, and worked in collaboration with the martial arts team to enhance the completeness of the action."
Bon Appetit, Your Majesty is coming on August 23. The K-drama will be streaming on Netflix. Check out the latest teaser.
