Netflix's Dear Hongrang has confirmed its release for May 16 and has unveiled teasers.
Set in the Joseon era, Dear Hongrang is a mystery melodrama that follows the eldest son of the greatest merchant family, Hong Rang, who returns after 12 years with lost memories, while his step-sister Jae Yi suspects his true identity.
The teaser opens with young Hong Rang (Lee Jae Wook) running through a dark forest, calling out to his sister, while young Jae Yi (Jo Bo Ah) desperately searches for him. As impostors begin to appear one after another, each claiming to be Hong Rang in hopes of seizing the Min Merchant Guild's fortune, a man claiming to be the real Hong Rang — whom no one doubts — comes 12 years after the child's disappearance.
However, upon seeing him, Jae Yi immediately denies his identity, insisting he is an impostor. Suspicions further grow as Hong Rang displays fierce martial arts skills and a ruthless demeanor, hinting that he may be an impostor after all.
Meanwhile, Mu Jin (Jung Ga Ram), the adopted son of the Min Merchant Guild family who came into the guild in Hong Rang's absence; Min Yeon-Ui (Uhm Ji Won), the matriarch of the guild and Hong Rang's biological mother; Shim Yeol Guk (Park Byung Eun), the guild's head and the biological father of both Hong Rang and Jae Yi; and Prince Han Pyeong (Kim Jae Wook), an artist famed for having the keenest aesthetic eye in Joseon, pique curiosity about the role they play in the story.
Dear Hongrang is coming on May 16, only on Netflix. Watch the teaser here.
