Zhang Ling He hailed as a 'Chinese superstar sweeping across France'
tvN's upcoming Saturday–Sunday drama Typhoon Family has been confirmed to premiere this October.
Stills from the script reading session were unveiled. In attendance were director Lee Na Jung and writer Jang Hyun with actors Lee Jun Ho, Kim Min Ha, Kim Min Seok, Kwon Han Sol, Lee Chang Hoon, Kim Jae Hwa, Kim Song Il, Lee Sang Jin, Kim Ji Young, Kim Sang Ho, Moo Jin Sung, Kim Young Ok, Park Sung Yun, Kwon Eun Seong, and Sung Dong Il.
Typhoon Family follows Kang Tae Poong, CEO of a trading company with no employees, no money, and nothing to sell, navigating the 1997 IMF crisis.
Lee Jun Ho plays Kang Tae Poong, who grows from a free-spirited youth into a corporate professional caught in the storm of the IMF crisis.
Kim Min Ha takes on the role of Oh Mi Seon, the eldest daughter who takes the responsibility for her family's livelihood, while dreaming of becoming a corporate professional.
Kim Min Seok takes on the role of Wang Nam Mo, Tae Poong's close friend and a member of "Apgujeong Street Boys", a group of free-spirited youth of the '90s who reigned over Apgujeong.
The Typhoon Company team elevates the excitement. Lee Chang Hoon plays Go Ma Jin, sales manager; Kim Jae Hwa plays Cha Seon Taek, deputy general manager in administration; Kim Song Il plays Gu Myeong Gwan, director in management; and Lee Sang Jin is Bae Song Jung, assistant manager in logistics.
Sung Dong Il will make a special appearance as Tae Poong's father, Kang Jin Young — a man who rose from humble beginnings.
Kim Ji Young plays Tae Poong's mother, Jung Jung Mi, a once-glamorous Gangnam housewife who faces sudden downfall yet stands resilient to protect her son.
Kwon Han Sol plays Mi Seon's younger sister, Oh Mi Ho, tough and sharp on the outside, yet soft on the inside.
Kim Young Ok comes as grandmother Yeom Boon Yi; Kwon Eun Sung as the youngest Oh Beom; and Park Sung Yeon as Nam Mo's mother Eul Nyeo.
Furthermore, Typhoon Company's rival father-and-son duo CEO Pyo Bak Ho (Kim Sang Ho) and his son Pyo Hyun Joon (Moo Jin Sung) highten tension.
The production team stated, "Typhoon Family is a drama that portrays the heartwarming survival story of ordinary people who survived the IMF crisis." "For Generation X, who lived through 1997, it will bring back memories of survival, while for the MZ generation [Millennials and Generation Z], it will provide empathy and comfort by helping them understand and respect their parents' generation." They continued, "We hope that the 'typhoon spirit' of that era, which [helped people] overcome the crisis and move forward, will bring hope and courage to viewers living in today's world," and concluded by saying, "We ask for your anticipation and interest in Typhoon Family, which will premiere in October."
Typhoon Family is coming this October, on Netflix.
