Li Yun Rui and Liu Xie Ning cast in 'Sea of No Return'; filming begins

Li Yun Rui and Liu Xie Ning have been cast in new historical drama Sea of No Return.

Sea of No Return is a historical drama produced by Youku and Damai Entertainment, directed by Jin Xiong Hao, and written by Ren Yanan. It stars Li Yun Rui and Liu Xie Ning in lead roles; Zhang Shi An in a special starring role; Zhou Qi in a special appearance; Xuan Lu in a special starring role; Bai Shu, Jiang Xue Ming, Wang Qian Guo, Chen Tong, Li Xi Yuan, Ye Qing, Wu Li Peng, and Zhang Xiao Qian in supporting roles; Zhang Nan and Ye Zu Xin in special starring roles; Siqin Gaowa in a surprise appearance; and Yin Xiao Tian, Zhang Bai Qiao, Dais, Bian Cheng, Li Mu Feng, and Gao Yu Er in special appearances.

The drama is adapted from You Si Jie's novel "Jin Yin Cuo" (金银错). It tells the story of royals entangled in a century-old feud. At the center are a heaven-ordained Princess who bears the fate of the nation and a vassal prince from a faraway land burdened with restoring his family's former glory. 

Born as opponents, they first meet under a cloud of suspicion. Yet within a marriage shaped by calculation and generations of enmity, love takes root, plunging them into an emotional turmoil where, despite knowing it should not be, they can no longer keep their feelings under control.

Li Yun Rui plays Yuwen Liang Shi, and Liu Xie Ning comes as Princess Mu Rong Jun. 

In August 2024, the drama was officially filed for production. On May 27, 2025, it was selected as a key project under the 2025 "Qilu Literature and Art Summit Plan" for online audiovisual programs. In May of the same year, it was also included in Shandong Province's 2025 Outstanding Online Audiovisual Program Projects. On March 6, it was announced that the drama had officially begun filming.
