Park Jin Young shares insights into his upcoming melodrama Shining.

Shining follows the journey of young people who once shared a world of their own as they become each other's source of trust and light, guiding each other's lives.

In the K-drama, Park Jin Young plays Yeon Tae Seo, a subway train operator who, behind a cold exterior, lives with a tender sensitivity. Park portrays Tae Seo's story from his nineteen-year-old days to his current life as an adult.

Park Jin Young said the charm of Shining lay in its realistic story: "I wanted to participate because I thought it's a story not just about a pretty youth but also about real-life struggles that anyone could relate to."

Speaking about his character Yeon Tae Seo, he shared, "He felt like the kind of person the script subtly suggests — someone you'd think, 'I wish a person like this existed,' with his unconditional trust. I was drawn to that warmth, and it made me want to try playing him."

He added, "As we go through life, we all know it's better not to worry about what others think, but we also know that, in most cases, it isn't easy to avoid their gaze. But Yeon Tae Seo lives life in his own way, rather than worrying about how others see him. That was the most appealing thing to me."

The actor must also capture the story of a nineteen-year-old boy becoming an adult. "The more I read the script, the more I saw that Yeon Tae Seo has many traits that remain consistent even as he gets older."

"So I didn't try to express differences through my acting based on each age bracket. But if there's one point where I did create a distinction, it's the way Tae-seo handles his struggles. I think I wanted to show that, as an adult, he has a bit more composure compared to when he was younger."

Lastly, Park Jin Young personally pointed out what to watch for, further urging viewers to tune in. "I think the most ordinary, everyday stories are the most beautiful ones. The stories Yeon Tae Seo and Mo Eun Ah write reflect emotions we've likely felt at least once in our lives, and if you focus on that, you will feel an even deeper impact."

Shining will premiere on March 6. The K-drama will be streaming on Netflix.
