Actress Ryu Hyun Kyung shares her feelings about portraying a character who suffers sexual harassment at workplace in No Parking.
No Parking, set to be released on May 21, is a thriller that follows a woman as she becomes a target of murder after a quarrel over parking with her neighbor.
Ryu Hyun Kyung plays Yeon Hee, an anxious office employee who joins a company as a contract employee and is assigned a new project. Kim Roi Ha takes on the role of Ho Joon, a mysterious neighbor who cannot tolerate rudeness, and Cha Sun Woo appears as Dong Hyun, Yeon Hee's one and only younger brother.
In the K-movie, Ryu Hyun Kyung's character Yeon Hee is a woman who, after a divorce, is trying to rebuild her career. However, her supervisor, aware of Yeon Hee's desire to become a full-time employee, approaches her with dark motives and behaves inappropriately, subjecting her to sexual harassment and stalking.
Ryu Hyun Kyung said, "It was so deplorable that I cried real tears, even though it wasn't originally supposed to be a scene where my character cries." She added, "I couldn't believe someone could actually behave that way."
She went on to say, "Yeon Hee probably thought she had finally been given a good opportunity to become a full-time employee. She must have felt a mix of emotions — betrayal and shock — at the fact that the supervisor she trusted and followed turned out to be the one harassing her."
There is also a scene in which Yeon Hee, threatened by Ho Jun, stops by a unisex restroom and experiences intense fear.
Ryu Hyun Kyung said, "After filming No Parking, I started to reflect more deeply on this kind of real-life fear. Now, even as I'm going home, I sometimes wonder, 'Is someone following me?' I've started coming home earlier [than I used to]."
No Parking is set to be released on May 21.
