Upcoming Chinese historical drama Against the Current has confirmed its premiere date for September 11.
Adapted from He Yan Shan's novel "Lan Xiang Yuan (The Fate of Orchid Fragrance)", it tells the story of Shen Jia Lan, the eldest granddaughter of the Grand Secretary's family, who is engaged to Lin Jin Qi, the eldest grandson of the Lin family of the Minister of Personnel.
However, the Shen family suddenly suffers misfortune, and to protect themselves, the Lin family breaks off the engagement with the Shens and forms a marriage alliance elsewhere. Meanwhile, Xu Wan Quan and his wife, servants of the Lin family whom the Shen family had once helped, arrange for Shen Jia Lan to take the place of their daughter, Xu Lan Xiang, who had recently died, and become a maid in the Lin household.
Ultimately, Shen Jia Lan wins Lin Jin Qi's heart through her kindness and intelligence, becomes the head of the Lin household, and clears the Shen family's name and seeks justice for them.

Shen Jia Lan, the eldest granddaughter of the Grand Secretary's family, is engaged to Lin Jin Qi, the eldest grandson of the Lin family of the Minister of Personnel. However, amid sudden upheaval in the imperial court, Grand Secretary Shen is convicted of treason, and the Shen family is tragically massacred.
Seeking to protect themselves, the Lin family breaks off the engagement with the Shen family and instead forms a marriage alliance with the Zhao family, a newly prominent family. Xu Wan Quan, a servant of the Lin family whom Shen Jia Lan's mother, Lady Cui, had once helped, and his wife replace Jia Lan with their daughter, Xu Lan Xiang, who had recently died of illness.
From then on, Jia Lan assumes Xu Lan Xiang's identity and becomes a maid in the Lin household. Despite her difficult circumstances, Lan Xiang refuses to bow to fate and continues to strive for a happy life for herself and her family, resisting injustice and oppression.
Tan Song Yun stars as Xu Lan Xiang/Shen Jia Lan, and Liu Xue Yi as Lin Jin Qi.
