K-movie The Match surpassed 1 million moviegoers on April 5. Consistently maintaining the top spot at the box office since its release, The Match garnered an audience of approximately 1,056,921 from the morning of April 5 (Saturday), its 11th day of release. This hints that the Go-themed film will continue its successful box office run into the second weekend of its release also.

Not only is The Match maintaining its spot at number one at the box office, but it is also ranked top in ticket reservations for its second week of release. It is expected to continue its box office success this weekend as it races toward surpassing its break-even point.

Along with the news of surpassing 1 million viewers, a special thank-you video from the cast to the audience has been released. Actor Lee Byung Hun, who plays the role of Cho Hun Hyun, personally wrote "One Million Thanks" in calligraphy and expressed his gratitude to the audience who took the precious time to visit the theater.

Along with Lee Byung Hun, actors Hyun Bong SikMoon Jung HeeJo Woo Jin, and director Kim Hyung Joo also appeared in a video to express their gratitude to the audience.

The Match tells the story of the legendary Go (baduk) players, Cho Hun Hyun (Lee Byung Hun) and Lee Chang Ho (Yoo Ah In), who go from being a teacher and student, respectively, to rivals.

The achievement is particualrly monumental as The Match has had a rocky road to release. Filming for the K-movie was completed in 2021, with an initial plan for a 2023 Netflix release. However, the release was delayed after the lead actor, Yoo Ah In, was investigated for drug-related allegations. It was decided to release the film in theaters instead. Promotional materials, such as posters and stills, have excluded Yoo Ah In's image, instead shifting focus to Lee Byung Hun.
