Dramas I think are overrated.

Regardless of if they're actually quite good or absolute crap (in my opinion), I still consider these shows to be way too praised or high-rated for what they really provide. Are only included those I actually watched (or tried to).

  • At a Distance, Spring Is Green

    1. At a Distance, Spring Is Green

    Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    7.5

Rated 8.3 on MDL. Good premise, good ideas, Yeo Joon is a very interesting character. It should have focused on the growing friendship between the 3 leads more evenly and leave the romance to be more gradual and subtle between Joon and So Bin to make it truly blossom in the end. I love Kang Min Ah and could listen to her voice for hours, she's a great actress. Themes of childhood abuse and its repercussions are close to my heart. But the realization didn't work for me at all, a lot of it was boring, some important things were imo very badly written, it dragged when it shouldn't and got over things that should have taken more time very quickly, and there was a lot of wasted potential. I really loved the first 2 episodes and the last 2 had some great moments as well. The rest, I'm unconvinced.

  • Being a Hero

    2. Being a Hero

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 32 episodes

    7.0

Rated 8.0 on MDL. Badly realised and disappointing, terrible middle, terrible finale. Chen Yu is unsufferable for more than the half of the show. There are good ideas, I like the plot and the first 8 episodes or so are interesting. The last 8 or so are OK as well, if you forget about the finale. Wu Zhen Feng is a touching character. The relationship between the MLs is terribly developed and forced. In my opinion, 8 is too high for its actual quality, 7.5 would be the maximum.

  • Beyond Evil

    3. Beyond Evil

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    7.5

Rated 8.7 on MDL. Incredible acting, good OST, interesting premise. All the rest was overdone, overdramatic, it goes around in circles, the relationship between the MLs didn't make sense and was cringe-worthy, the slowmo/static shots on faces for like 10 hours before it finally ends got on my nerves, there were good ideas and, again, the acting is beautiful, but it just pretends to be something it's not.

  • Bloodhounds

    4. Bloodhounds

    Korean Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    7.0

Rated 8.7 on MDL. Lots of violence, average dialogues and writing, nonsensical plot, unrealistic fights, people survive unsurvivable things, nothing subtle, too rushed, OK characters although not very deep, nice relationships, some good messages, OK ending, Kim Sae Ron should have been here until the end.

  • D.P.

    5. D.P.

    Korean Drama - 2021, 6 episodes

    7.0

Rated 8.8 on MDL. Just violence. I get that it's the point, but there's really nothing more to it. Really. Acting is good.

  • Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

    6. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

    Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes

    5.0

Rated 8.8 on MDL and 1st most popular drama. Yeah, no. I dropped at episode 5. The age gap between the characters is horrendous and seriously cringe (between the actors the gap is 12 years, on the absolute edge of what I can tolerate, but the female character in the drama is FREAKING 19! She's like barely major from like yesterday and he's like hundreds of years old and the fact he looks 40 is really disturbing). It should have been a love story between a man and his daughter at this point, something platonic and unconditional like My Mister, I would have watched it. But here I just couldn't, it made me really uneasy. I also didn't care about the basic plot and all that jazz, I didn't like the characters, I don't really like the actors (although they can act, I just don't really like them), and it just isn't that good or well written overall honestly.

  • Hello Monster

    7. Hello Monster

    Korean Drama - 2015, 16 episodes

    6.5

Rated 8.4 on MDL. Good acting, interesting premise, I liked the romance because I love Jang Na Ra. The rest made 0 sense whatsoever.

  • Mouse

    8. Mouse

    Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes

    8.0

Rated 8.9 on MDL. Not "bad", I liked some things, but makes absolutely no sense scientifically and psychologically and the writing is wonky. If you can forget about all that, stop thinking critically or even more simply turn off your brain entirely, it's entertaining and well acted. But if you can't, it's profoundly stupid and really not that well written.

  • Taxi Driver

    9. Taxi Driver

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    7.0

Rated 8.8 on MDL. Car crashes and angry people ? I can't remember anything else. Didn't like the characters, didn't really care about the plot.

  • The Devil Judge

    10. The Devil Judge

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    6.5

Rated 8.7 on MDL. I admit I did like this until the last 2 or something episodes. Then the terrible finale made me realize how nothing made sense from the start. Relationship between MLs was weird, cringeworthy sometimes and the plot basically absurd from beginning to end. Too many questions. Ending was horrible. OST and acting are good.

  • The Long Night

    11. The Long Night

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    7.5

Rated 8.5 on MDL. Nasty but interesting on some levels and very well acted. Could have been one of my favourite thrillers - if some things didn't turn out the way they did and made me even regret watching it. Can't really explain anything without spoilers.

  • Through the Darkness

    12. Through the Darkness

    Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    8.0

Rated 8.7 on MDL. I think I kind of slept. OK, not really, but this was SLOW. Slow and boring. Criminals were interesting but the main characters were not really, there was no real progress, change, movement in anything, their friendship was nice but not developed enough to really be engaging. A documentary would have been better as it's based on a true story and it would have been good this way, but not as a drama. It would have necessitated something more to the plot to make it more entertaining.

  • Under the Skin Season 2

    13. Under the Skin Season 2

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 28 episodes

    5.0

Rated 8.4 on MDL. It could have deserved between 7,5 and 8,5 based on the first half of the season. But adding the second half, and especially considering the last few episodes, Fang Kay Yi and their exceedingly weird "love triangle" awkward bl-vibe dynamic : it's crap. Absolute crap. Huge disappointment. Badly written, core plot is horrendous, characters are trashed and basically the last 8 episodes should be wiped out. Ruined the yet non-existing season 3 if they're planning on continuing that way. I'll just watch the 1st indefinitely and forget the rest.

  • Weak Hero Class 1

    14. Weak Hero Class 1

    Korean Drama - 2022, 8 episodes

    8.5

Rated 9.1 on MDL. Still very good but lacking due to the overly short format and doesn't deserve imo 9 as a rating. It should have been way longer and more developed. It could have been excellent. The fine directing and insane acting make it way more entertaining than it actually is and it's not a drama that can leave you indifferent, for sure. It's not totally absurd and the plot is alright for what it is, although it does have its lot of nonsense. However the characters and relationships are lacking in development. The potential IS definitely there, but it just feels like a summary.
