Matthew Ho grew up in the Hong Kong Island area. He attended Pui Shing Catholic Secondary School and St. Stephen's College before immigrating to San Francisco during Form 3. He then studied at Foothill College after completing his Bachelor's degree in accounting from California State University in 2011. In 2012, he joined the 26th TVB Artist Training Class after realizing his interest in the entertainment industry.
In 2012, during his time in the TVB Artist Training Class, Matthew Ho met Zoie Tam, and they were in a relationship until they broke up in 2017. Starting in 2017, he dated Joyce Chui until their separation in 2023.
