Yamamoto Koichi is a Japanese actor born in Meguro, Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the first literature department of Waseda University.

After graduation, he joined the Haiyuuza Theater Company in the 8th term. After leaving Haiyuuza, he joined the Shinjinkai theater company and made his debut in the stage play "Don Carlos" in 1960. Since then, he has been active mainly in theater but has also appeared in movies and TV dramas.

His wife was actress and talent Kobayashi Chitose. His eldest daughter is actress Yamamoto Mario.
