He graduated from St. Timothy's Primary School in 1988 and the Pentecostal Lam Hon Kwong School in Ho Man Tin in 1993. While waiting for the results of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, Li briefly worked as a sales representative for Hutchison Telecommunications and also at a video game store. He did not have a clear career goal until he noticed a poster for TVB's artist training class, which sparked his interest in the entertainment industry.
By 2016, seeking new opportunities, he requested to become a freelance artist, terminating his contract with TVB in May 2019.
Li was in a four-year relationship with fellow artist Lisa Tse. On October 10, 2017, Li and his non-celebrity girlfriend, Bobo Tam Po Yee, who had been dating for six years, officially got married.
In 2021, Li started an online business with his wife, selling pet snacks and supplies. He also continued to work part-time as a fitness instructor.
