After studying violin at Kunitachi College of Music, he played in a film music orchestra as a violinist and learned composition from Ikenuchi Tomojiro and Iken Yuzuru. In 1952, he won the Music Award for "The Life of Oharu", "Mother", "Lightning Bolt", and "Secret" at the 7th Mainichi Film Awards. In 1954 (Showa 29) he won the Music Award for "Konjiki Yasha" at the 1st Southeast Asian Film Festival (now Asia Pacific Film Festival).
