Year of monkey actress rely on beauty and cant act that well. Zero romance because monkey never commit anything to anyone. Not independent like rat woman but just selfish and try to trick people.
The way monkey trick is more of make you think of something else. misdirection mostly
But in china they glorify monkey year born woman because it means wealthy. It may be true because you wont find a pauper monkey . They have too much brain to be pauper.
Xiao Zahn do not look like Lead actor here. More of 2nd fiddle actor. May be got lucky with script with other drama.
Try to watch first few episode. Big budget ...big time cgi ( game level quality) but story and lead actress and voice for her ... all meh. I think its director is the issue i think.
There is no flow. You need hooks and its missing big time. Not as much worse than XUKAI but still looks bad because of story has no depth. You go God level fantasy and wuxia. This is neither. Everyone have magic ability means its trash.

I want to know this director date of birth. So i can profile people.
Why spend ton of money with big budget and dont have that hooks in them. Small things matter.
This director is noob or some successful movie director. Because he dont give any nuances. Small things acting.
They need give scene here and there to keep us interested as they prepare for big scene.
The fighting scene was game worthy but that is best in this drama.

This drama has none of three. What about acting?
Well i watched whole 30 episode a drama where villain cant act. It was fantastic. Because its the flow , i mean natural flow..no skipping no rushing.
Even all xiao zahn fans vote 10 for this drama , it wont go above 8.2 That is so high because there is lots of his fans in mydramalist.
For me its 7.5 at max.
How can i give 7.5 with only two episode... Director footprint.
