I’ve wondered about this too. From the BTS clips, he does seem genuinely fond of her—he clearly finds her cute and hilarious—but I’ve noticed the same kind of ease and natural warmth with her other co-stars as well, like Cheng Lei and Hou Ming Hao. That makes me think there’s something about her personality and demeanor that puts her male co-stars at ease and invites those unguarded reactions.

What surprised me more wasn’t even the character himself, but how strong the reactions can be toward anyone who mentions finding the SML attractive or says they can understand where he’s coming from to some extent. I don’t ship him with the FL at all, and ‘hate’ feels like a strong word for how I feel about him atp — but the discussions can get surprisingly personal attack coded sometimes, which I find a bit excessive.
I sometimes can’t tell where the drama is higher: in shipping the FL with the SML, or in the responses to that ship. To clarify, I don’t personally ship them; this is simply an observation.
