Great start but predictable ending

The series started off pretty strong and promising. The plot kept getting better too. The mind games were pretty interesting too.
But the series had many plot holes and the one thing I dreaded right from the start actually ended up being the ending.

Acting was top notch. Xiao Zhan obviously did amazing. The micro expressions were a great deal. So was JingYi. The casting felt perfect. You could feel the emotions they were trying to portray.

Talking about the characters.
ML was pretty good at the start but he was consistently under prepared during all his plans. Luck was on his side that he got off safe almost every time, or probably because the mask man was saving him every now and then.
The FL was supposed to be smarter than ML. Or so they claimed at the start. She was also someone who had a huge network of intel in the kingdom and was a great fighter herself. Yet by the middle of the show, she was just an accessory. Someone who had a great chance of getting utilised for the plot but was instead ignored and kept as a mere NPC.
Loved FL's mom. Amazing yet short lived character.
The masters were all amazing, and heart-melting.
MLs friends, FLs friends were all great.
Loved the Marquis. No matter what he did, still couldn't hate him tbh.
The character of Eununch Cao felt a little off. Like, they not only didn't give a good story, but the ending was pretty rushed and then you realise the backstory was pretty weird. As if the writers couldn't actually come up with a good story so they just wrote something random.
The masked man!! The ending that I dreaded the most. But well I just lost interest after that. The story was already very slow (despite I watched it in 2x.) but after this, I just skipped through the scenes. I no longer was interested in the dialogues. Just the end.

And coming to the character I hated the most. Zhixin!!
Freaking headache. Not only was he immature but also a stupid ass who was guided by Zang Hai. But then he ends up betraying ZH despite him being the one who killed his dad. Like come on man, you know very well what your dad did. But you...you lied to ZH, your benefactor, about the 3rd villain. And not just that, you work in cahoots with the 3rd guy and then backstab ZH.!!! Just too much
Well obviously ZH knocks some sense into his head in the end and he kinda does the right thing. But ahh...the character development for this character all went down the drain.

Worth the watch

A story with beautiful stories sewn within themselves. A story with familial love and relations. Above all, there was a story arc for each and every character. There was no main character or supporting character, and we each character was given their own time, speed and deserving story.

The storytelling was amazing. There were no loose ends. Entertaining and engaging, the story also involved the emotions of the people watching the show.

All in all, it was a very beautiful drama, and finishing the last episode was very emotional since it felt like my relation with them ended there.
