Have you seen Chang Chen in anything else to say that he's not good looking?? Because I think he's anything but. What…
I'm sorry, but what you're saying about Chang Chen affecting this drama's popularity is totally false and just slander. You probably got that from some hate comments or something like that.
This drama did *okay* in terms of views, not really poorly like you say, and it has a 8.3 Douban rating which is an excellent quality rating, proving that those who watched it basically all enjoyed it (for comparison, TMOPB has a 6.5 rating, Pillow Book 6.8).
It did just okay in terms of views/popularity because of multiple reasons, but mainly because: 1) it aired at the same time as the Untamed, that was an unexpected, phenomenal success that got all the attention of drama viewers, and competitors like L&D suffered as a result 2) by summer 2019 the "deity" 神仙 genre wasn't as appealing to viewers as it was at the time of TMOPB because of oversaturation of the market following TMOPB's success 3) it didn't star any "hot" idol actor able to attract views just with their presence. Both Chang Chen and Ni Ni come from a prestigious, movie-exclusive background, and while their names are synonymous with talent in the industry, they do not attract (or even want to attract) a certain kind of mass popularity
Just wanted to clarify. My sources are the online discussions on Chinese (primarily) and international web spaces that were going on back then. I'm not even a fan of the actor, who I wasn't very familiar with before starting this drama, but I hate misinformation being spread like this.
I just finished this drama and I was already mindblown by how good it was, then I read the interpretations of the ending(s) and my mind blew up even more. I'll need to rewatch it to catch all the things that I missed. This and The Long Night are the best crime/thriller C-dramas I've ever seen.
its way better than eternal love. problem is the main actor is not good looking, or young. even my mom dropped…

What I think didn't play in his favor in this drama was the styling: his long-hair hairstyle lacked volume and gave his head a weird shape, and his clothes were often too big and shapeless. When he has his hair up and wears more tight-fitting clothes, like in some scenes in the mortal world, he looks like he should always have looked (and reminds me of his Brotherhood of Blades character, who was sooo good-looking).
And as a side note, Jiu Chen is supposed to be "old" and mature. They even mention it in the drama. This is not a role for some young and pretty actor, it was written precisely with this actor in mind.
Asking for spoilers: is the love triangle intense? Who is it between? How many couples are there? Who are they?…
No, the love triangle is not intense. It only lasts around 10 episodes and you always know the second male lead has got no chances at all. It involves Ling Xi (FL) when she's in her mortal form, Jiu Chen (ML) and Jing Xiu (second ML/antagonist). Jing Xiu's love for Ling Xi is always one sided.
There are two main couples, Ling Xi x Jiu Chen and Qing Yao x Yun Feng. Other characters flirt but they're less relevant as couples.
Is this story really related to Eternal Love? Because as I remember, Mo Yuan was a God of War and he felt in love…
It's set in the same universe, but a long time before the TMOPB events. The two stories do not share any characters, just general themes and concepts. It was made by the same team that made TMOPB and in my opinion it's even superior to it.
I completely agree with your review. I really don't understand how people are giving it a 10. The plot is super…
Idk, some people might actually like this drama, but I think many 10/10 reviews are fans just trying to support Xiao Zhan (or any other actor). Reading some of those reviews you get the feeling they haven't really watched the entire thing. I'm a fan of XZ too, but I don't feel like straight up lying after going through 50 episodes of a drama that I thought was mediocre. I prefer being honest while still pointing out that XZ's character and performance were good.
This is probably my favorite main couple in every historical drama I've ever watched. Ni Ni and Chen Kun are equally gorgeous and their acting is fantastic. It's a pity the drama itself is overly long and probably suffered from hasty editing and rewrites, because with this production quality it could have been a masterpiece. If only they hadn't put in so much filler and had made it around 40 episodes! I think I'm going to watch up to ep 45-50 just to look at the main couple, but I'm not going to stick until the end because I'm not really invested in the political/court scheming plot.
Just when I was thinking this drama was getting boring, the 6 year timeskip and the little kid happened. That was such a breath of fresh air, just what this drama needed! I hope it won't become boring again before the end. I don't really care for the main couple anymore, I'm staying for You You and the secondary couple.
There is no dragging at all. She left everyone hanging at the end of ep.24 and in ep.25 she is back with 6 yr.…
Oh okay, thanks. I was confused because they seemed happy but then she suddenly divorces him. And how did things end with the company? Did Fan Ning, her father and Simon leave the company to Gao Erfan?
I'm on episode 7 and so far I like it! I wasn't sure if I should start another fall-in-love-after-marriage drama so soon after finishing Perfect and Casual, but this one is very different. I really like all of the 4 main characters and especially the FL. The only thing I don't like is Tang Ping Ping lol. I don't understand what's the purpose of this annoying character XD
This drama is so good! The story is nothing new but the main relationship is so cute and heartwarming and their chemistry is off the charts! I just binged 21 episodes in 24 hours
It started very promising but then got soooo draggy. At one point around eps 40-50 I accidentally skipped a couple of episodes and missed nothing significant. Still a good drama but you have to go through a lot of unnecessary plots (like the one in Zhan Beiye's country, totally skippable) to enjoy the good bits. Ruan Jingtian was the best part of this drama.
Does anyone know if the character Zhe Yan appears a lot or not in the pillow book? :D
He does! He often appears with Ah-Li. I'm not sure this drama will follow the book closely, though, since a lot of things were already changed in Eternal Love
