i am SO ANGRY i started this bc now i have to wait every goddamn week and i like it so much. and, again, first…
AND that cafe looks cool as fuck. saw some black girls there too which was rly cool! i'd love to go to a place like that and chill lol. obviously dika was a really special person
they hid it pretty well which is something kdramas all fail to do lmao i was pleasantly suprised!!!
u know what i mean right? hahha like when they wanna pretend theyre hiding someone and we're like WE KNOW WHO THAT IIIISSSS it is so annoying !! but here they kept us in the dark >:)
The only thing that feels weird about this amazing drama is how serious the students take this 'curse'.Like...…
this is long as shit so ignroe if you want but i'm just thinking out loud
is it though? it's just an allegory anyway but it's not really that they take it seriously it's that there are consequences if they don't fall in line with arbitrary suppression/oppression by the ones who set the rules. so when things go wrong they blame the curse and they self-regulate with fear of the curse. this could be seen with like kids of really authoritarian parents or in narcisstic family dynamics.
i think the whole point IS what you present; that these obviously very intelligent boys are in this environment and doing all of this for an insanely arbitrary reason. they can't like their classmates/schoolmates simply bc theyre boys but even though they interact with them CONSTANTLY—they have to know how weird that is, how almost infantilizing it is to view life that way. they know growing up is hard and how unfair things can be, they live it! but the knowledge of or even the belief in the curse should have had them not have any of these feelings at all in the first place. so what's stopping them from going after what they want or being open with their feelings is the consequences.
then they can't even /think/ about not agreeing with everything their teachers say—the gang is actually (imo) wrong about the uniform thing for the reason why they discussed in the episode where they talk about field marshal plaek but it's not about right/wrong it's the fact that they should be allowed to be heard, express themselves, and possibly come to a compromise (like maybe they get to have a day where they get to wear whatever they want every couple of weeks!) like sani said, they just want to be heard. in a better place/society/whatever it would come to what i mentioned above (ability to express, discuss, potentially compromise). the 'curse' is to ensure that these kids never mobilized in the first place!
my point is the only way for them to make sense of this world isn't necessarily self-deception nor true belief in system. when you're younger it's easy to believe in things like this, like a parent telling you something silly will happen if you don't eat your vegetables. as you get older you realize that's bullshit; the same thing here. they have to be well aware this is unreal HOWEVER at the same time: if it is unreal then what does that make the rules? what does that make their last 4 years of life? who are they without a tight imaginary leash at their necks?
their compliance is absolutely not because of some supernatural entity, nor because they believe in it (they could but i'm saying it isn't a necessity), it's because of the cost of deviation to their lives; their home lives, their futures, their careers. when you're in high school, a teen, you start getting your own ideas, breaking away, your empathy is diminished so you can be a dick—rebellion HAS to happen so they can forge their own identity. the curse makes sure you don't have any of this in the first place. but that's not how the world works.
the curse helps them make sense of their predicament and ties their allegiance to the school in a weird way but the thing they take seriously is punishment and to avoid it at all costs even at the risk of their self-determination and future. additionally this is all structures extremely like military, prison, etc the idea of fraternity and being close-knit, championing homosociality but disallowing any true affection felt through camraderie or romantic relationships. it has to look a certain way and you all have to follow the same thoughts or else some system will punish you. it's really fucking sad when you think about it that they throw away their common sense and feelings and friendships and love at the behest of a fake order without question just for some sense of peace, especially knowing they are intelligent and caring boys (the ones we follow at least) and i think it's meant to hit the viewer even more as we realize that they know this stuff is impossible, unfair, untrue
O i think he accepted the idea of liking someone from the begining but not the person after all he is on the opposite…
i don't think he's in denial it's just that there's too much pressure surrounding all of this. but like they're smart kids so if they think hard(er) they're able to differentiate and see a truth that it doesn't matter and that we're all people and even if they don't label themselves this is bound to happen like realistically you cannot expect a bunch of people to congregate and not fall in love/like/whatever with each other just bc of the silliest factor (gender) . i feel like they kNOW how stupid that idea is like when they were talking about their valentines!
on top of that wat was illuminating when he asked them if they were jealous LOL. so i don't think it's denial—plus it's not like they're not in contact with knowing that same-sex attraction is possible. i think they're in touch with themselves enough to know they just have to break out of the mold that other people set for no reason like when sani said what she did to wat it applies to every situation here. can't wait for them to go to college lmao
I definitely think he had a crush on the old head prefect but, just like now with Ayan, he didn't realize that's…
i feel like akk is super into him tbh but in a way where it's much easier for him to tap into it like obviously keeping the photo was important to the both of them so he gave him a way out which i think it's pretty pivotal and i think i agree with above user that he knows what's going on but yea he def liked the prefect lol
The World Remembers guys were so cute in this ep. I was afraid something bad would happen to them. Did Akk had…
if they got rid of the flashbacks it would be great in terms of production because holy shit yes. it is so annoying and cloying to the viewer and the kids who watch this aren't dumb THEY CAN REMEMBER THE SCENE THAT HAPPENED BEFORE it drives me INSANE FUCK lmao
he def had a crush, just didn't know at the time that it was that. i mean admiration and crushing can bleed into the same too so it's natural he just thought it was one over the other instead of both
i am SO ANGRY i started this bc now i have to wait every goddamn week and i like it so much. and, again, first is a star. but yea um i love this i dON'T WANT TO WAAAAIT. this is a great series for teenagers/young'ns too which is perfect since that's the main demographic for this genre but yea. good show and also the music is good and i almost never say that. not perfect but extremely enjoyable
i'm curious about the alumni/parents at the school actually and what they think about this curse or is that another dumb tight-lipped secret organizations have?
also there's an allegorical thing here the school represents the military and police as well like basically these kids acting like the fucking secret service. it's gonna be interesting to see what their armbands being red mean
eyeeee enjoyed every bit of that and i need to sleep cos i have a meeting tomorrow and yet HERE I AM can't wait to get my eyeballs on ep 5 but now im mad cos i'm gonna watch it live now UGH bd idea why did i start this OTL
this show is a genuine gem

hope this made sense
