Tbh, AOS is much better compared to eaw. EAW is def good bringing different stories, still I think it’s overrated.…
it's more dynamic and engaging (AOS) but that's exactly why it's apples/oranges imo. two totally diff tones/themes/production and audience expectations
this has some major pacing issues and issues in gen. i'm frustrated that it's obviously so loose bc of a part 2; a lot should have happened by now. that being said i am still interested in will happen but i'm not sure if that is enough to tamper my negative critique. this is a very interesting and enthusiastic comments section!
I still don't understand how "Running Man" is ranked #1. I mean it's good and fun, but not "all-time-best-ever"…
it's a big part of the culture i think. of course so many people who are korean feel the same way i am sure but it's a form of escapism and fun for a lot. to me the humor doesn't hit but i'm not korean and it's also not the kind of humor i prefer. i also don't think it's really a reality show—idk where you are from but in the US a huge long-running important game show is jeopardy and will always do well because it's engaging to the audience, interactive in a way, and allows people to have fun. when the host of the show passed away it was devastating for a lot of people.
produced media is more involved in requiring a viewer's attention. this is a very simple way for people to be engaged with the world on their terms which i think any show would be. and ratings aren't everything either.
Yeah, character development. It is again, as with everything Junho, not overt but yet very noticable. Like we…
the one thing/possible thing i need to overcome is the satisfaction in seeing a dude beat up someone who is being a dick lmao. i'm really glad he got mad esp bc i think he is starting to realize this shit is RELENTLESS for her. i don't want it to necessarily be because he loves her and i don't think so exclusively but like/love definitely opens doors for ppl; to learn abt new experiences (without harming others), to learn to love yourself with the help of a partner (though not being "cured" of difficulties), and to open each other up.
also i think his female friend who said that thing and his friends reactions in the bar—the ones who weren't garbage—will be indicative of a change. i loveed that the girl was like "stop" and then the other dude got mad and told him to shut up and that wasn't okay. change comes from within but i think motivated from without esp if you never think abt these things which a lot of us don't, bc we don't have to. like lizzo and beyonce changed their lyrics because it is ableist and even though a lot of people are angry to have to think about it, it's a strong motivator when it comes from people others respect/like/love. idk if this makes sense
Just waiting for attorney Woo's next ah-ha moment 🌬️ 😲 🐳
when they do that she looks BEAUTIFUL i love her forehead. i hope they cut her bangs a bit as she gets further along in her journey and maybe can chop off the ends alittle to show a change. something abt her looks so fresh
I think a few commenters have said this. She is extremely cute but cos she is teensy and has that aura (as an…
i agree with everything!!! I was just thinking out loud. We as viewers should challenge these perceptions—someone way below mentioned their discomfort of her being called innocent which I hate in kdramas with someone neurotypical so here it’s worse! TY for writing this and your concerns and critique!
And I 100% agree about critical voices in a sea of positivity or potentially not so great responses to these serious issues. And to call it out either the audience or the content (or both!)
My thoughts exactly on the conversations and reactions surrounding the representation and imageries. Though I’ve…
I feel like with ableism people get really upset when being called out.
We don’t want to think that we can be like that and since most of us are the dominant group we think it’s genuinely annoying or we get pissy we have to think about other people. Even for COVID the idea is letting the elderly, weak, and immunocompromised suffer and die! We don’t think of them as fully human and it’s a legacy!
Even small stuff Like Min Woo with the revolving door and even CSH’s reaction. I would have NEVER thought about that from a physical perspective and a mental one (for someone like WYW). And it isn’t even fuckin useful! (And BTW i have done this and still and must work on it. I have had those unpleasant feelings because I haven’t been considerate or I’ve been criticized and even the idea of thinking beyond my own comfort would irritate me! I know in HS a lot of us were mean to the different girls. Looking back, it’s clear now that was ableism even if we didn’t know the diagnoses; it was way less widely known too. It’s fucked up.)
I'm enjoying EAW (though I think the rating and hype gave me unrealistic expectations, if I'm honest) but am I…
I think a few commenters have said this. She is extremely cute but cos she is teensy and has that aura (as an actress). I interpreted your mention of the tweet (I didn’t see it!) as like “they made it solely about the kiss” but you’re going more in depth (which is good imo!) because her autism is part of her and it was also something navigated in the kiss and it was hot :P honestly i WISH they had the lights on so bad!! we wanna see more of that shit!
I think your concerns/comments are valid. Any show like this is probably going to have that reaction. I haven’t thought about it but do you think there is anything the writers can do (storywise/production wise) to make this clearer?
I think a lot of it is, at least in my view, an “inevitable” outcome (with any show but particularly) with socially engaging ones like this. It’s going to take a long and concerted effort for all of us who don’t have these experiences and differences to shed these prejudices and that will hinder our microaggressions but it’s work and uncomfortable work. Sometimes the show is a challenge because it challenges us, the viewers, who don’t and will not and cannot conceptualize what they go through. And that sometimes, like with ep 10, things are going to he difficult to solve but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t challenge things or do shit differently.
No media is going to be perfect, or even close many times, and part of that is an audience’s reaction as well. A lot of us are simply coming to this with next to no knowledge of our ingrained ableism but IDK! Lots to think about. And yes I think many are missing the point.
also ay shout out to nyc \m/
