Well I finished the novel and I watched the first few episodes. If this follows the novel it will be tragic for many characters from beginning to end. So many unfortunate and pitiful characters. This is primarily about what may have been between two people. It is not the story of a fully experienced romance and love that was later lost. In the book there is no ACTUAL romance just some feels and potential. I am going to wait and put this on hold until I know if it continues to follow the novel. Reading this story was enough, I am not interested in seeing a relationship that never came to be with constant tragedies happening all around.

He physically has tried to kill her many times and this is irredeemable not to mention the possibility she would fall in love with him after that ridiculous! What would that say about her? This is to please the mostly female audience so that they can fantasize that a gorgeous successful male is out there just waiting for them alone. What a crock! No wonder women in China don’t want to marry as they are all waiting for this man. Now that there are fewer men than women they think they can hold out until the right one appears as they are in demand. This sets ridiculous expectations.

What a bunch of been there, seen this a million times garbage. I skipped through 16-20 what a waste of time. All these writers do is cut and paste scripts from all the same previous dramas and use different actors. No original thought or creativity whatsoever. Save your precious time for something else! There is no way this is a 7.8 rating.
This is not going to end well imo. The Chinese lost first Shanghai and then Nanjing (the capital at that time) at the end of 1937. Both locations where this story is taking place. Hundreds of thousands Chinese were lost in these two battles alone. Likely a sad ending as the war with Japan continued on becoming WWII.
