Yes they broke up in the novel, but Pat was supposed to marry someone else, and P'Aof has really taken the best of their qualities from the novel and brought it out in magical ways throughout the show.

I don't know how or specifics (and I may be COMPLETELY IN DENIAL) but when Pran is talking to his friends I feel like he is putting Pat's plan into action (And a true redemption for Wai - since we know Pran's mom loves Wai) so Wai will start coming over as a secret agent - or cupid.
Plus we have Pa as an insider, she is the only one that knew Pat left, and she's been solid throughout the show, and now she has Ink -

I truly loved a full devotion of the episode to our boys - I thought we would get part one and some of part 2 - but never hoped for 4/4
I'm not sure how he will pull off the last episode, but really i havent been disappointed yet.
