i’m seriously confused about the current rating as well. do you know how rare it is to find a truly female-centric chinese drama like this? we finally get a story centered on a female lead who’s focused on personal growth and isn’t just “love-brained" and it’s still not appreciated. it’s 2026, i can’t believe this drama is still ahead of its time. the author and screenwriters of this drama are honestly brilliant.
ig that's mainly because the drama is focused on their life and career that's why they seemed to be fast paced…
the novel is so long, they probably have to rush to the main focus of this drama which is building a better life in the 80s—starting businesses, navigating economic changes as well as progress in family and romantic relationships.
i like that we get a glimpse of modern xiaolan at the start of each episode, followed by a meaningful episode title (like a chapter title if this is a novel). then we move on to the main story which somehow relates to that earlier glimpse and episode title. this drama is really well thought out.
So is this drama any good? I really wanna watch it bc of the FL but idk
for this drama, i wouldn’t even suggest watching one or two episodes to decide—i’d say just give it ten minutes! it’s that good. ofc, you still have your own preferences.
caution: you can’t multitask while watching this. look away for a second and you’ll miss a whole plot lol
i really believe that this drama is set in the parallel world. the world before and after the time-skip is virtually identical. however, since xiaolan has traveled through time, her former self, along with her family, relatives, and friends, naturally no longer exists. otherwise, there would be two xiaolan in this world. in parallel worlds, some things are the same and some are different. it's like how the math problems in the college entrance exam are different but that big boss in the fashion industry might just be the same.
i was reading posts on xiaohongshu about how this drama pays so much attention to detail and how the team really did their research on that era. cnetz really appreciate it and there are tons of positive reviews and plot discussions. i hope the word of mouth keeps growing because a great show deserves to be seen.
The ratings are absolutely BS. This drama is such a hidden gem. I'm so glad I came across it. Zhou ye as Xiao…
there must be other viewers like me who haven’t rated it yet. it’s perfect so far but i don’t rate a drama unless it's 10/10 and i've completed it 🥺 i hope the momentum keeps up until the last episode because this is so good.
i hope mdl isn’t following douban's path, that site is now infested with troll users and fandoms mindlessly rating dramas to the point that it’s no longer credible.

lotfg did gain her a lot of international fans haha i loved her there too, though I had some issues with the screenwriting of the drama. this drama, on the other hand, currently gets full points from me. she really does keep improving with every drama 🤍
Watching episode 1, I’m surprised by Zhou Ye’s acting. I also love how they did her looks. She’s not afraid…
she’s always regarded herself as an ‘actor,’ not a ‘celebrity.’ she gives me the impression that she focuses on her craft, regardless of public perception, and that’s why i started following her work. on top of that, she’s really good at choosing her roles. have you watched that movie where she played a pregnant woman during covid? she was amazing there and even earned a nomination. her first role as an antagonist also earned lots of nominations. i'd love to see her in a campus drama or maybe as a rich heiress but she seems to prefer grittier roles, digging into the dirt and going to war 😩
is the reason why xiaolan is seen wearing an orange dress in ep.8 to show how she and ziyu are so different that…
that’s an epic detail to point out. i was focused on the lighting and shadows haha like how the sun shines on xiaolan’s side while ziyu’s side is dim (last frames on ep 7).
to use this second chance at life to become successful and build a better future, it's a wish fulfillment drama
maybe this trope just isn’t for you. i'm actually loving this drama—for everything. i've been praising everyone involved, from the directors and editors to the screenwriters and actors. my housemate and i have found it thrilling and exciting so far and we’ve already caught up with the latest release. we especially like the emotional tone of the family storyline. it’s okay, we all have different preferences. i’m quite picky and this will surprisingly be one of the few i'd give a perfect score, based on the latest episodes. it’s been a while—i've only given this level of high regard to two cdramas so far: scent of time and meet yourself 🤍
"Yes, she transmigrated into another Xia Xiaolan. In the original novel, she accepted the transmigration much more quickly . In the show, Xia Xiaolan's parents passed away early, so she never experienced familial love. Here, she felt the warmth of maternal love and the care from her aunt and uncle. She tried to go back but found no way. She also went to the city of her past life and discovered that her parents from that life didn't exist, so she decided to stay and live this life all over again, defying fate to change her destiny."
i’ve been reading discussions about this and they say it’s a real time-travel drama. sarft has never explicitly banned this content. idk… but my eggs are bigger! 😎
jokes aside, don’t worry about the destination for now—just enjoy the ride.
