I think you're looking for a lot more depth into details than they were going for. That's how you end up with 30 + episodes in a cdrama that just drags on because they spend more time developing the surrounding story and not sticking to the point of the story. Then everyone complains about how the drama gets draggy, because not enough is happening to move the story itself along.
I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting those things. I'm just saying it's difficult for drama writers and directors to find the perfect balance for everyone. They may have originally included all of those more in-depth details you're looking for but edited them out for the sake of telling a more concise story. They have to pick what they want to focus on.
Also, I want to point out that I think the drama chose not to focus on the details of her handicap and how they affected her daily life because that wasn't the point of the story. It was about how being handicapped affected her way of thinking and her mentality in her decision-making and the way she lived her life. It was about how both she herself and her mother put this burden on her to prove her self-worth despite being handicapped. That it could only be accomplished by making it big in the big city. Like living a simple life would be a cop-out. It's also about how losing both her dads to death made her unwilling to set aside her goals - even as she started realizing she had nothing to prove and was good enough as she was, handicapped and all - to be with the man she loved was too great of a risk for her to take. She made it clear that she didn't want to regret putting her goals aside to be with him. It wasn't because he was trying to coerce her to do that either. It's because she feared that he would die and leave her behind too and in the end she'd have nothing - no him and no successful life in Shanghai.
So if you put it in the context of the story they're actually trying to tell, delving further into the details of her handicap and how affected her daily life or spending more time explaining his mindset of selecting that career, would actually lead to a digression from the entire point of the story. The story wasn't about living with handicap in the way you're thinking about it. She could have had a less restrictive handicap and the story would have been the same. Thanks to her mom (as we saw from how psychotic she behaved when she found out they were dating and that she might give everything up to stay with a normal guy from her hometown like him) all of her self-worth was tied to living and being successful in Shanghai. Doing that, despite her handicap, would finally mean she was worth it. She already started showing growth when she told off the narcissistic "ex" of hers because she'd finally started realizing her own worth - handicap and all. She stayed in that "relationship" with that man for years because of how messed up in the head she was over being handicapped.
Do you get what I mean? I'm not trying to say you're wrong or anything like that. I just thought that maybe if you think of the story from another angle you might have a greater appreciation for it. She wants to prove to HER MOTHER and to herself (and, to a lesser extent, people like her narcissistic "ex" who looked down on her because of her handicap) that she can be successful in the city on her own, despite her handicap.
Even setting aside her goals to be with a man she loves is not an option because of her mom. Her mother has now lost 2 husbands - neither by divorce, but death. She's learned that she can't count on the man she chooses to be around (because even death can - and, in her mind, WILL - come and take them away) so she cannot plan her life around love. I feel like she believes the men in her life will die too so she can't plan a life based on a man playing a big part in it.
Let's say she finally realized that her self worth doesn't come from her career and achievements in Shanghai and she also stops trying to subjectively prove herself to her mom, instead she finally realizes that she's good enough just as she is so all of those things become pointless to her. As a result she gives it all up and moves back home to start a life with the ML. In her mind it's only a matter of time before he dies too and she'll be left with nothing but regret in the end. So there's no way she'd ever give up on her goals and future in the city to be with the ML.
She's letting her fears and insecurities rule her life.
Man. I'm having a really hard time tolerating the mother's bullshit. I've made it to ep 15 trying to tell myself that she has their best interests at heart even if she doesn't know how to show it well, but god damn! I've had enough of her shit! She's constantly demeaning her kids - all of them. The son gets it the worst! (Well, until the FL went and dated someone she didn't approve of that is) In almost any other context she'd be considered an extremely verbally abusive parent. The things she says to her kids are horrible! Like an evil step-mom kind of terrible. How their step-dad just let her carry on the way she did doesn't help either. Now that he's gone she's so much worse.
Everything else in this drama so far has had a somewhat soothing approach to some very deep topics and circumstances. It's very well-written and executed. But she's definitely my biggest complaint.
The narcissistic "ex" of the FL was bad too, but the mother...she's a whole different category of toxic AND HYPOCRITICAL! She kept acting like that other lady was being all irrational when they went to the old lady for a consultation about her daughter, but then she turned around and behaved 1000x worse!
She uses "caring" as an excuse to justify her bitterness and cruelty. That just makes it worse. It's even more abusive that way because it makes the kids feel wrong for being upset at being treated badly. I understand that she genuinely loves her kids and she uneducated so she doesn't know better a lot of times but she sure as hell knew better when she was talking to the other mother so why can't she be as understanding with her own kids! I'm a parent too and yes, we don't always agree with our kids, and yes we often end up saying the wrong things, hurtful things, which we regret later but she's excessive with that shit. It should be a one off, a rarity. Not a commonality. No matter how uneducated you are your method of "nurturing" shouldn't be to demean and belittle your kids.
I can tell this drama will make her come around, with the vibe it has, but they need to speed that shit up. Instead she just keeps getting worse and worse and more and more bitter, cruel and mean.

The more I watch the more I can't help but be in awe of the QUALITY of this drama - the acting, writing, production, cinematography...just everything! I've only made it to ep 10 so far but I had to come here to gush because I'm seriously impressed. The viewing experience is beautiful.

Nah she really isn't loose like that. She just pretends to seduce the men then gets evidence against them to help their wives leave them (or vice versa; she doesn't only help women, she helps men gain evidence against their cheating wives too). She's actually a good girl with strong morals. If you skim the drama and don't watch it properly you'd totally miss the point entirely and totally misunderstand her like I see some people commenting on her do. In fact, they even address it in the drama so it's obvious those people making those comments didn't actually watch the drama properly, If they did they'd realize in most of those scenes with those men she was acting.

No no there's no kissing the SML or anything like that. She just kept annoying me by giving him too much leeway time and again. However, everything she and the ML did all had good reasons behind them as far as I can remember. I've already watched so many other dramas, movies and shows I'm forgetting the details! LOL! I do know that there was always something more to the story - I quickly caught on to that pattern. I seriously ended up enjoying this one tremendously.
I honestly don't know what episodes any breakups and all that happened in and it really would do you a disservice to tell you in advance in this particular situation as they intentionally mislead us several times throughout the drama. Going into those details would REALLY spoil the story in this case, which I usually don't mind doing if someone asks BUT this time it would REALLY take away from the enjoyment. Like seriously. All I can say is watch it expecting twists and turns that will leave you relieved instead of frustrated once each situation plays out. If it begins to get a bit frustrating know that it won't last for very long and that there's always more to the story. Wait it out.
