So it is not about HJP not getting the girl, not any more?? LMAO.But, there was no love triangle. He never cared…
The writer wrote the second lead too strong, that more than half the people were rooting for the second leads happiness.

The love story of the ML and FL felt quite forced and boring, and so not that many people were heavily invested in it.

If the writer wrote HJP as a maniacal, and sadistic bad guy, then maybe NDS would shine more, but instead she did the opposite. She wrote a very relatable SL, and a very dull and boring ML. That was her mistake.

Her second mistake was to make the show revolve too much around romance, rather than the business aspect of startups. So people wanting to learn more about the start up industry in Korea, were disappointed.

It's more sad for NDS character, than KSH was so busy during Start Up, and still outshined the Main Lead.

Whether or not there is romance between HJP and Dalmi is not as important. The key thing is that the ML was overshadowed by the SL, and the whole story suffered because of it.

Although i had serious issues with how they used and ended HJP character, i loved the rest. I loved Dodal couple…
I felt that nds love for dalmi never sheds the manipulative overtones prevalent in the show.

From catfishing, to stalking, not respecting her wishes, eavesdropping and etc... this has all the trappings of a very dangerous type of romance.

The amount of zeal nds displayed for dalmi felt like overzealoudness and not romantic.

I get what the writer wanted to portray, i just felt it fell short of the mark.

When you need a 3rd person like hjp to sweeten the main couple, there is already something wrong with that.

As a writer, don't make rules and backstory only to ignore it midway.

Viewers are not that stupid not to realize what is happening.

When it comes to Dalmi choosing Dosan, not HJP, instead of trying to understand from HJP's p.o.v., it is best…
It's not all NDS fault, dalmi herself is not the best character, very weak, and let men decide what her future will be. When people see through dalmi POV, it becomes even worse, as they don't understand her decisions. A lot of women don't understand her actions.

Someone lie to you the whole time, and you forgive them in less than 1 week? What girl will relate to this? Guy keep following even when girl ask for space? What girl can relate to this.

Start Up is not very realistic, so asking people to see it as realistic is not realistic lol...

if I think like gold digger woman, I can relate to Dalmi, she realized NDS is her ticket to be wealthy, so she just stick to him, sure. It make their relationship not romantic though, but rather very shallow, which is how I see their relationship.

Writer lose touch with what people in this generation think about relationship, disappointing :)

It's true. The FL does not end up with the rich & handsome supporting ML. Instead, she ends up with the ML, who…
FL does not end up with Rich, handsome and supportive HJP, but instead ends up with the Rich, handsome, and supportive NDS? What is the difference?

Do you want to argue that NDS did not start rich? Ummmm, neither did HJP, in fact HJP has arguable a much more difficult life, and he started with less money than NDS. Nobody invested in him the way Alex is literally throwing money at NDS.

I studied a bit of literary analysis in college. So I would like to try by hand in this "Masterpiece" start up.

In start up we know the following things:

HJP is smart, rich, well dressed, confident, a jerk, has a fancy car , a fancy apartment.

NDS is a genius but not rich, not well dressed since he is not rich, has low self esteem, kind, doesn't have a car, because he is not rich.

So who does Dalmi choose ?? The analysis follows...

So we see that Dalmi chooses NDS because of the reason mentioned above.

But after fast forward

HJP is smart, rich, protective of dalmi, well dressed, confident, no longer a jerk, apologized to Yongsan, has a fancy car , a fancy apartment, has become a philanthropist, and given back to his roots as an orphan.

NDS is genius, rich, has a fancy car, will get a fancy apartment, not loyal to the company that made him rich, sold off the app that was supposed to be a passion project for Grandma, a jerk, over confident, condescending

So who does Dalmi choose now? The analysis follows...

Dalmi chose nds still, eventhough the NDS now is not like the nds before timeskip, that doesn't seem to matter. So eventhough NDS picked up a lot of negative characteristics that HJP used to have, it didn't seem to matter.

Confused? So am I...

I like your analysis, but I would argue there are a few important differences between NDS and young HJP.Firstly,…
I'm questioning if you know what bromance mean?

NDS and HJP did not have a bromance until the very end, where it was forced. That is pretty clear.

NDS was 100% competing with HJP, there was so many obvious scenes of it. And HJP was also competing with NDS. It was not a friendly rivalry.

There is no love lost between HJP and NDS.

Now a bromance between dalmi and in jae was clear, the presence of the sisterly bond was clear eventho they were at words with each other.

The bromance that you feel is there, in reality isn't. HJP and NDS were at odds all the way until EP. 16, where they suddenly become best bros. I've seen many Kdrama with actual bromance, and Start Up would not be in my top 20 list of KDrama with a bromance.

Everything that HJP had, he would give away in a heartbeat to have a real family. HJP is portrayed to have a very lonely life by the writer. HJP is not even shown once, to have any sort of friends in the show. NDS on the other hand is shown to have support from dalmi, yong san, cheul san, his parents, even Alex. While in hjp's POV, we never see anyone supporting him but Grandma.

NDS, cheul san, yong san, from the very beginning are always commenting about HJP's wealth, because in their mind that is what's important. And the in a really poorly written way, the writer gave it to them, to "even the field".

I can tell you really love the show and the writing. I just find it hard to agree with your points.. Personally I thought the writing compared to Kdrama, Western Drama and Cdrama is really shallow and weak.

Masterpiece is a really strong word to describe this show.

As someone who enjoyed English Literature courses (almost majored it) during my college years, I'd like to share…
Interesting take, but I would have to disagree with most of your arguments.

Dalmi's dad, contrary to popular belief was a self sustaining innovator/pioneer who was way ahead of his time. All he accomplished, all he had was through his hard work. In fact, while working for his sadistic boss, he was constantly dreaming of fulfilling his business, but being an adult with responsibilities, he knew that he could not afford to be risky, and opted to work as a grunt for 10 years or so.

When he got fired, it gave him the opportunity to pursue what he had always wanted to do, and he had so much faith in it, he threw everything he had. He worked tirelessly and was willing to sacrifice everything to see it come to fruition. He had no one to support except for his very young daughter, and his mother. He saw his dream come to fruition without a mentor. And Grandma saved him by investing into her son. Dalmi's dad wasn't very talented, but he was tenacious, and truly believed in his dream.

NDS in comparison is someone who in reality had very little vision, nor did he know what he wanted to do. In fact, he needed Dalmi in his life to provide him direction, and when she was not there, he started to struggle to figure out what his dream really is. Unlike dalmi's dad, NDS is an actual genius, and the solution to many coding related problem, just comes to him. In fact there is a scene, where NDS tells dalmi how there is this maze, and he just figures it out. Dalmi ask how, and NDS says, I don't know, I just did. That line, pretty much describes most of NDS life, how he just goes through the motions, and he doesn't know his real direction.

This is not uncommon as not all geniuses can tap into their full potential. And a lot of gifted atheletes even, squander their god given gifts. Unlike dalmi's dad, NDS actually had plenty of support, both financially, socially and emotionally. His life never reached a point where it was literally go broke and be hungry, or succeed. He never had the hungry ambition of dalmi's dad.

In fact, if you wanted to create a character comparison, I could argue very very well, how HJP and dalmi's dad are more alike than NDS and dalmi's dad.

Also, in regards to hjp view of nds. He pretty much pegged NDS as similar to all the many many other start ups that he reviewed. So he painted nds and his company as no different than any of the many other start ups that he has seen fail.

Hjp belong to a very pragmatic type of people who believe that there is only one way to succeed, and you have to follow certain steps. Because of his background, and his hardship, hjp doesn't believe in miracles or short cuts, he believes in blood, sweat and tears. This explains is pragmatism when it came to nds and his company.

For all the comments here. Let my suspension be a REAL LIFE LESSON.

You can do good, you can follow the straight line, you can not personally attack people, you can help the community, write theories and analysis, and overall be a nice person.

But in the end it doesn't matter, you will get punished.

While others, can troll, attack people personally, instigate fights. And yet receive no punishment.

This is real life, the real lesson to learn from the show.
