The death of the Fu Lan Sheng's parents was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time! š Them dying hand in hand on the bed reminded me of the old couple in the Titanic movie, when the ship sank...
They were such a delightful couple! I would watch a drama just with their story. Actually I would watch a drama of all the tragic couples so far. Please let our mains not have a tragic ending... :')
This drama is so unpredictable and keeps me on the edge of my seat! :D The synopsis barely hints at the depth of the story, so as you watch, everything feels like part of a much bigger picture. Itās such a thrill and it actually still feels like weāve only scratched the surface of whatās to come!
24 episodes straight without a single dull moment! Itās been a while since Iāve felt this excited about a drama. Even though Xianxia isnāt usually my go-to genre, I always give them a shot because every now and then, a gem like this comes along. Thatās exactly why I keep exploring. You never know when a story will surprise you!
If the drama maintains this level of quality, itās bound to become one of my favorite Xianxia dramas, right up there with Legend of Shen Li.
Also I already liked Sun Zhen Ni in TTEOTM, but her performance here has truly won me over. She might just become one of my favorite Chinese actresses and Mu Xuan Ling one of my all-time favorite female leads! š
No cause I was like damn why is he acting like that lol. I liked it though, was entertaining
It definitely made me laugh š Especially because Mu Xuan Ling isnāt easily startled, so her puzzled expressions made it even funnierālike, "Alright, bro... calm down š "
I donāt think Ep. 22 was a filler at all :D It was a brilliant way to weave in glimpses of past events while setting up some subtle foreshadowing for whatās to come. The writing was pretty clever and provided us with some context for the plot development.
Also, is it just me or did those 6,000 years as a shadow make Qian Guang Jun a little unhinged? His antics were so eccentric lol Mu Xuan Lingās perplexed reactions to his behavior were funny! XD
If this drama gets a bad or sad ending, I will just pretend that ep. 22, minute 42:00 is the ending lol That would be the perfect ending. Them walking hand in hand out of the forest and him indirectly proposing to her with that String Bonding effect haha
Ya'll just love commenting on physical appearance when you probably look like a cow irl
I've noticed the eyebrows as well and it was distracting at first. It doesn't have anything to do with an appearance attack.
And as I learned that they styled it that way because it's how they wore it in Tang Dynasty, I've gotten used to it. You could've just answered that it's styled that way on purpose. There is really no need to get so offensive over it.
Just finished ep. 21 and Iām STILL OBSESSED! š How the tables have turnedānow heās the one doing the seducing and courting and Iām absolutely loving it! šā¤ļø
Iām honestly so impressed that this drama has kept me fully engaged even halfway through and I havenāt skipped a single scene! Thatās such a rare feat for me with dramas lately! šš
This drama has become my favorite among all the ones I'm currently watching. It wasnāt even on my radar and honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of Vin Zhang. I hadnāt enjoyed any of his previous dramas that Iād seen, so I initially thought Iād skip this one. But on a whim, I decided to give it a try and Iām so glad I did!
Itās funny because I was much more excited about other dramas, but none of them have managed to hook me yet. It just goes to show that a popular cast and director donāt guarantee anything. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal taste! š
That said, itās not that I didnāt enjoy the episodes at all, I just didnāt feel the same overwhelming excitement as some other viewers who are praising the storyline.
Iāll definitely keep your perspective in mind as I continue watching. Perhaps the beginning was heavy on stereotypes, but the real test will be how the story unfolds from here š
Donāt worry, all comments are respected and should be welcomed. Your points are valid. I guess what grab me…
Thanks for your kind words about my comment! Hopefully, I'll have a change of heart watching the next episodes š
I really wish I could understand Mandarin as well. Iām sure thereās so much nuance and depth that gets lost in translation! I'm trying to avoid to watch with Mango Subs, so I couldn't watch ep.7 yet š
Everyone's opinion is appreciated as long as you don't directly insult the actors š Now I do want to comment…
I really appreciate your reasonable perspectives on my thoughts!
While I can understand most of your points, I still feel strongly that Youzhen is evil. Killing a rabbit out of jealousy? Thatās unhinged and downright cruel. She cray cray and evil imo š
I'm not sure if I will ever like or sympathize with her or Liu Chang, even if writers give them "character development" or a heartbreaking past to explain their behaviours...
After finishing episode 6, I have to admit this drama still hasnāt hooked me š„² While the production quality and acting are undeniably phenomenal, the storylines feel overly familiar. So I was a bit surprised that viewers praised the storyline, because nothing new has stood out so far for me...
- A smart FL with an exceptional talent for business and numbers - Greedy, shameless and murderous in-laws - An cowardly and abusive husband - The evil mistress trope - The FLās mother dying of sickness - An evil, manipulative stepmother - A cowardly, easily manipulated father - A powerful ML occasionally stepping in to rescue the FL (tho I do appreciate that ML is not that much of a stereotype so far, he's rather indifferent, doesnāt pity her as much and isn't overly noisy) - Tons of evil people - Endless suffering and misfortune for the FL, one blow after anotherāshe really canāt catch a break...
Iāll keep watching, but honestly, I feel like Iāve gotten so negative about it that I might need to take a break and return when more episodes are out š
Please donāt jump on me for thisāI know many people enjoy this drama, but this is just my opinion after six episodes.
Maybe bcs you are still on EP 3 but if you watch further you would see that the ppl you call villains aren't necessarily…
Iāve watched up to episode 6 and still feel the same. I appreciate flawed characters as well, but if you're labeling an abusive, potentially predatory person as simply āflawedā or ācomplex,ā then we clearly have very different definitions of what separates a āflawedā character from a villain.
Iām only on episode 3 and the Liu family is absolutely disgusting. This drama has so many unlikeable characters. I didnāt expect to even hate Miles Weiās character... Honestly, I wasnāt prepared for a drama where 90% of the characters are so unlikable. Not sure if I want to keep going lol
I find it hard to stick with dramas where I only like the leads, but the supporting characters are all annoying, shameless or downright ruthlessāyet they still get so much screen time. I know itās too early to judge, but so far, Iām just not feeling it.
Itās not even the abundance of antagonists that bothers me, but CDramas often fail to give them meaningful redemption arcs. Instead, they try to force us to empathize with them through clumsy storylines and that approach rarely works for me.
But Yang Zi's acting in ep. 3 was impeccable and fabulous! Well, I guess, I will keep on going. Maybe after her divorce I will have less hateful characters on screen š

I completely agree with you about the production quality and the attention to detail. Itās something I noticed and liked as well!
Regarding the clichĆ©s, I totally get where you're coming from. When theyāre done well, they can be charming and enjoyable. But weirdly I couldn't enjoy them here. The first six episodes leaned a bit too heavily on familiar tropes, which dulled the excitement for me. Also the flood of unlikable characters early on made it so hard for me to get invested.
That said, itās not that I didnāt enjoy the episodes at all, I just didnāt feel the same overwhelming excitement as some other viewers who are praising the storyline.

The list of clichĆ©s could go on. I was genuinely excited about this drama, especially with such a brilliant cast and a director whose previous works Iāve loved. Thatās why itās disappointing that it hasnāt resonated with me yet.

It's fascinating how one character received so much love that viewers still come back here every few months to mention him :D
But it's too soon to predict. He's still an interesting character for sure and I'm curious what will happen in the future :)
