Gonna develop it a bit. What im really highlighting are the differences that make each unique couple possible in the first place. Kinn having great difficulty trusting others, which makes him drawn to Porsche who is so open and trusting. Simultaneously, Porsche yearns to gain the trust of someone like Kinn, who is so loving but has his walls up.
VegasPete speaks for itself. Vegas is a deceitful character who is compelled by Pete's stance of honesty. Honesty here also translates to sincerity. Pete's sincerity when he comforted Vegas even after all the torture he'd been through, sincerity in staying even when he had the opportunity to leave, sincerity when he wanted to actually leave both physically and figuratively (confronting Vegas directly), sincerity in saving him and wanting to be with him. Meanwhile, Pete is attracted to Vegas' cunning nature which masks his fragility. I'll gloss over TimeTay cause it's obvious enough.
Then finally KimChay. Chay is naive and warm-hearted, and i think that on a subconscious level, he's attracted to Kim's cold-heartedness because he wants to figure him out and have him open up to him. This makes sense considering he's always in the blind about everything. Porsche was probably absent often and hiding things from him even before the bodyguard hire due to him having to make a living. That's left Chay always having to figure things out by himself, and wait for others ro come to him. That transfers onto Kim perfectly. Kim on the other hand is mesmerised by Chay's innocence and how gullible he is. He is a very cynical character, and as they say, all cynics were once idealists. I think Chay revives that hope and faith in humanity, that warmth Kim innately seeks. So that's that for my explanation of why i chose this concept ๐
this is amazing so far, so glad to see this kind of representation; I love how observant the FL is, she is very aware of how she is perceived and what others mean by their actions. It's very refreshing to see especially for a female character, and even more so for one who can be easily infantilized. The trailer made me skeptical that they would fall into the trap of infantilising her and making her helpless but cute, however, that's not the case here and I love it. I also think the ML's personality was a great choice, to make him kind to begin with (toward anyone), and then also showing that he gets frustrated or feels awkward from time to time around the FL, which is more realistic. Had they made him prejudiced or just distant, then it could have easily trapped him into a caricature, and worse, possibly even leading the character to being condescending toward the FL. That's because the "bad boy" stereotypical character typically falls in love due to the "cuteness" of someone like the FL (but this cuteness would be directly linked to her disability which is an issue). For example, with her not being able to go through the revolving doors, it could have easily been watered down to the ML finding the situation amusing and resulting in finding the FL adorable. On the surface, it seems lovely but underneath that, it would be insulting to the FL who genuinely struggles with it due to her autism. Instead, the ML helps her out (as he would for anyone else) and takes her seriously, without it being played off as comedic. To us, the audience, it's sweet as he is treating her with respect and offering useful advice to her without treating her like an infant. So yeah, I find everything great so far, I'm excited to see how the FL will eventually process her feelings toward the ML later down the line too.
Ps: I was also grateful for the wlw representation. I thought it was beautiful how the wedding dress slipping off, revealing the buddhist tattoo of the character was symbolic of how she revealed her true (naked, literally) heart to everyone present: the fact that she is wlw/gay. It was a clever comparison, associating the grandfather's disapproval of her to the fact that she is buddhist when he thought she was a christian. It's an accessible metaphor for queerness! That made me very happy
KIMCHAY crying hours open featuring "why don't you stay"
Genuinely kind of flabbergasted that they were the one couple that had a bad ending. Predictably it could have been VegasPete, but it was more logical and sensible to end it the way they did. It was very satisfying, rip kimchay tho but im sure we'll see them get closer properly in the second season
To some extent i was thinking there'd be no way he actually died but that little doubt within me was making me wonder how id even begin to process it if that was actually it djdhdh
