Selling the rights to make a remake is what raises funds - especially for the creatives who made the original. This is why there are so many versions of reality shows. And let us be honest here...remakes are very normalised throughout Asia. Look at how many versions of "Boys Over Flowers" there are. The "US" part of this, IMO seems to be what irks people, more than 'remake' does... Family By Choice. A Time Called You. Very positive comments around both of these remakes by SK. AND it's not unprecedented in the US. One good example IMO would be "The Departed!" Based on "Infernal Affairs". Not better than the original, but definitely good.

I'm not a fan either. I found Mi Suk to be oppressively violent. TBF, It's pretty realistic how everyone is afraid of her, because of this. And how her daughter Seok Ryu is also so casually violent in her behaviour - to be expected when your mother models that behaviour, and NO-ONE calls it out.
This really lowered the value of the drama for me, because it made up SO MUCH of the plot/action of the secondary characters. It's disturbing that SK dramas still play this kind of violence as comedy.

Joo Eun and Woo Sik break up before he starts dating Soo Jin. This is clearly stated in the first couple of episodes. I can imagine a bias towards the FL, could cause the assumption that they're lying, but nevertheless, it's clearly stated that they did nothing wrong.
The worst that could be claimed is that having a relationship with your best friend's ex, is taboo. BUT Soo Jin feels that Joo Eun utterly betrayed her, by setting her up for PUBLIC HUMILIATION on a blind date, when they were at uni. Not something you can just forget and move on from! For Soo Jin, they're NOT friends! And as they say, you can't help who you are attracted to, and who you love. Even so, Soo Jin makes efforts throughout the drama, to protect Joo Eun when she can. As does Woo Sik. They are both good people who deserve their HE.

I really want to like this, and there's been enough to keep watching, but the casual violence, played endlessly as comedy, is just so overbearing. I find it overwhelming for... reasons; but it just reduces the quality of the drama in general.

The timing of this article, for me, is perfect. I find short form dramas are a great antidote to doomscrolling - which in current times, is just scrolling! There's fewer draggy moments for my brain to get distracted, so I usually manage to stay focussed. The only issue I have is figuring out where to access them... Now how to win the algorithm battle on the YouTube account I share with my 11yo...
