π lol I just watch too much historical drama where the kisses between the ml and fl can end up looking all pretty/beautiful but stiff and have no heat to them, which can sometimes just look more hilarious then romantic. Doesn't help either that I know how they film kiss scenes now after having seen a few BTS where the actors basically have to stand like statues in the same kiss position as the cameraman goes around and around looking for the best angles to shoot from. Although Story of Kunning Palace did rather well in the kissing department.
Praise be to the character development of Princess Yang Ying! Honestly this is one of the good ones, if not the best, in cdrama that I have seen in such a long time for me. There's such a contrast between who she started out being that I am blown away by how mature, assertive, and strong she has become at the end. No longer a wilting flower willing to be placed in a vase as decoration to be pampered, admired, and protected, she has taken the reins of her own life and finally made excellent and smart decisions with such confidence for herself. I love the inner monologue as she's being taken away after speaking to the An emperor. β€οΈ

Yup, LTG's character development was completely sidelined in the later half of the drama, which is so disappointing. Hard to redeem someone, when the writers made absolutely no effort to flesh him out as a character, other then to as a means to drive the plot towards what they wanted, which was the confrontation at the forced wedding. Felt like they shoe horned the characters into a preset plot line simply so that NYZ could come save RRY and beat up LTG.

True. LTG completely imprinted on RRY to the point where he just made her this ideal in his head after her death that he idolised. He completely didn't understand her as a woman and because of his traumatic upbringing he became possessive. The writers, I feel, bungled the scene where he just decides to go evil and force RRY to marry her though. Lol the decision to knock her out while she and NYZ were having a chat at knife point with the An emperor was another complete whiplash moment for me. I felt so miffed for YY that he used the ring YL gave her to do that the RRY.

π€ that sounds smoking hot. Modern dramas can be so much more liberating in regard to physical affection. For one we would then hopefully get to see our ML and FL finally have a good snog
Agree! Lol I would love to see LTG finally get over his obsession with his shifu and fall for YY. He's not completely…
π€£ not sure sanity is teachable but YY certainly was better treated by RRY then LTG. Maybe LTG needs some more teaching moments from NYZ, that seems to have helped punch some sanity into him towards the end.
LTG finally found someone like his master but we never get to see their romance lol
Also YY has that habit of walking like RRY now, I feel. That walk down the steps after her talk with the An emperor, with her head held high, was so brash, confidence, and bold, I almost thought she was RRY with a face mask in disguise.

Lol yes and I feel like there personalities, direction in life, and ambitions/wants are far more well balanced match. Almost feels like RRY, unintentionally, ended up being their matchmaker.

They're both RRY's disciples so there's no doubt, in my mind, that they will be a force to be reckoned with together. Also I thought, the drama seemed to hint that YY at least is being mature and realistic about her expectations towards LTG in the romantic sense a bit. I can almost envision her stabilising LTG's crazy impulsiveness a bit, while LTG will start to realise that YY is someone that he not only appreciates as a partner in the political sense, but can also relate, trust and fall for. I was so happy to see him chat with her about their shared childhood experiences in the cold palace as unwanted royalty. In a way, YY has the good traits that LTG lacks and needs to be taught. The snapshot of them and Chu Yue standing together sending RRY off in the last episode was really nice cause I felt like I was seeing the next generation. If only they would do a sequel for those three characters, then I would be so happy.

Lol to be far I do prefer a strong kick arse male and female because those storylines tend to get more action and adventure, with less plot drags. I just enjoy the novelty of a physically weak ml for the laughs like in Oh My General.

Yes sadly, there is a great deal about this drama towards the later half that is, in my opinion, not as well done as the first half. It's like they couldn't decided what they wanted to focus on plot wise and so they just mashed everything together to try and lead towards this epic climactic ending, but there were already so many more emotionally climactic moments before the end that things fell a bit flat and too predictable for me towards the end. lol I liked the storyline between him and Yang Ying though, but LTG needs almost a complete characterisation overhaul in regards to his shifu.

Lol I definitely have a predisposition towards generals and princes or crown princes, which are the staple mls in historical dramas, as it is the main genre I watch. I definitely enjoyed the switch up of NYZ and RRY being assassins instead. Ooh would be interesting to see a rather mismatched love interest like a weak scholar/official and a female general (although Nirvana in Fire kinda had something like that, it was completely unfulfilled). I am loving the strong female leads in CY, YY, and RRY. No Mary sues thank goodness!
I find YLβs death unnecessary too. I rather he died in a battle. and not as a messenger to an emperor who didnt…
There was so much foreshadowing of his death, but even then I was still not prepared to see the precious baby boy of the group die and honestly what a way to go π

True I found his sudden lunatic decisions to be so out of character sometimes. The actor did rather well, though I feel, the transition between lunatic and calculating/rational man were abrupt to say the leasts. Felt like I got whiplashed at the end with his sudden decision to go kill the enemy general/prince. He was totally used for plot convenience. π
Am I the only one who felt like things stagnated a bit in the middle and then there was the rush to the end? The rush towards the end wasn't badly written, but it felt like they were trying to cram so much in and so much was happening way too quickly that I felt we weren't given enough screen time especially for side characters. For me the last two episodes fell a bit emotionally flat. I'll admit though lol it might have been probably because I got tired of crying. In the end I have mixed feelings about this drama. π₯Ήπ€
yall i want a spinoff of LTG and YY so bad. anyone else?? It has so much potential
Agree! Lol I would love to see LTG finally get over his obsession with his shifu and fall for YY. He's not completely redeemed in regards to what he did to his shifu, I feel.

I think it was set up that way so that the last person he spoke to was Yang Ying, which was for me was a big emotional sob moment. Their little side romance was sweet but unfulfilled. π
