I agree with you! Adaptation arent meant to follow the novel exactly as it is written. There will always be parts…
Let me second this emotion. :)
I read certain books more than once if I really like it.
So for me, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd time reading the same text are often different experiences. For example, I had to read Salinger's A Catcher in the Rye in high school, then again in college, and a third time just a couple of years ago and the book hit me differently each time. Must admit that I have never seen any of the film adaptations (a quick web search tells me there are a few), but if or when, I expect to have a different experience vs when I read it 1, 2, 3 times.
The same with my favorite films. I have this one film I may have watched 64 times already, and I have also seen a work based on it (released in another country), and while both are enjoyable, it is enough for me to just appreciate them as they are. In my head tho, I am a character just like the protagonist and there is *my own* adaptation, based-somewhat on canon, but 100% me, LOL.
To me the bottom-line is always what I have learnt from it--could be about the world, about certain character-types, perhaps even about myself? Or could be as simple about how much I have enjoyed the reading or watching the creative work.
Peter Jackson is known for doing cameos in his own films too. He appeared in every LOTR/Hobbit film. 😂
Hello, Enigma. :) I was in grad school when LOTR came out. Me and my fellow RAs, TAs bravely asked our prof if we could leave work early (for once!) to catch the premiere and she ended up coming with us.
The trilogies are our annual Holiday treat, too. We watch the LOTR 1,2, 3 DVDs for Christmas day and The Hobbit 1,2, 3 for New Year's. Ah yes, Legolas. But I really miss Christopher Lee tho, he was a true icon. :(
If only I could get my friends/family to watch CDramas with me. I don't know anyone IRL who does (SK dramas are more popular over here), so it's why I'm on MDL lol.

But the books have SONGS in them! LOL. No chords tho so I made up my own melody and just sing them my way. Tom Bombadil sings a lot in the LOTR. Too bad there's no such character in the movies. The Hobbit is just one book tho, it was faster to read than the 3 LOTR tomes. Tolkien was a keen world-builder, such a meandering writer, too but back then the books were so addictive to me. I needed to read Tolstoy for Lit class but LOTR was more compelling.
I stayed up til the wee hours of the morning binge-reading them, and then skipping classes just so I'd finish reading faster, then on to the next book (seemed very urgent then ha ha, poor impulse control, I was a teen-ager! The folly of youth!).
Anyway, pardon me butting in here, I just got super excited at the mention of LOL. Wishing you a good day, OneLuffy. :)

There is a Hobbit graphic novel, too btw. I enjoy all versions. They're not easy to compare and I have engaged in them at different points in my life (ergo, different associations lol).

THIS!!!! Happy to read this. :)
Hello, you two. Tolkien fans unite ha ha ha. So thrilled to see the Jackson references here, too.
I read all the books in college, then the animated version, then finally the live action movies came out many years later (yeah yeah, I'm an old Gen-X'er). Can't believe that was 2 decades ago. Time really does fly.
They may be alcoholics? LOL. Been there, done that, been that, too. LOL. I got "spirited" just to unwind and free…
Hi Carmela. :)
Me neither. Before I got sucked into Asian drama I just read a lot of books LOL. I'd watch the occasional film when it's art house season. I'm more used to face-to-face book-club meetings and cinema club-meetings.
Then the pandemic happened, so I am fairly new here at MDL. Hope your day is going well. :)
One thing I am really bothered is that the secondary couple San San and Gu Xiao, do they work , career, or so…
They may be alcoholics? LOL. Been there, done that, been that, too. LOL. I got "spirited" just to unwind and free my mind after a long stressful day at work. In recovery now tho.
I came here after I watched 4 episodes to share my excitement because I loved the drama, didn't skip anything…
Let me second this (e)motion.
Live and let live, and let love. :)
I'm behind in watching the episodes tbh (just finished ep 2! So far, so good! No complaints here), but keep going back to this page to read spoilers LOL.
I will binge-watch on the week-end AFTER I finish my deadline. Everyone, have a good day and just enjoy TOOL. SMILE!
Methinks it's an occupational hazard. I have friends from the same profession and they do the exact same thing…
I did mean ON. It's always a challenge to watch them icebergs thaw out slowly but surely when you shine full-bright mode on them. Ha ha ha.
So no matter what the few posters here say (that the story is mediocre, cliche, tropey, etc etc), I really do look forward to seeing LZX do just that -- I think she's up to the challenge. So no complaints here whatsoever. :)
Glad they updated up to epi 3 on my side of the world.
Thanks, @OneLuffy I find that reading your comments on XZ pages here on MDL cheer me up and make me smile. Sending you great vibes today! :)
This is so unfair. We only have 1 ep/day in my region while 2 ep/day in certain regions. I even watched the ep…
3 episodes now on WeTV airing in my region.
Make sure you get TOOL though and not TOOL (TV Version). I am not sure why they have two separate listings for this drama, kinda confusing. Happy watching!

Hello, OneLuffy! :)
Grape-surgery is fine, they could do that for me. :P
But talking-shop that way in parties? :-|
My solution: I drag them on the dance-floor and we start to shake our glutes. That way, everyone's happy. :))
Srsly now, Dr Gu Wei acting all-cold (brrrr!) is a turn-on. He wears that beige (ecru?!) trench-coat way better than any angel I know of (hey, no offense to Castiel fans ha ha).
From where I am, only the pilot episode is available and exclusive to VIP. There are previews of episodes 3 and 4 (also for VIP). I suppose it depends on the region.
I know I shouldn't laugh at the fact that this man really just pointed out the flaws of every woman's health that…

I'm on lunch break so I sneak a peek at MDL lol. I shall start my binge soon, it's a Friday yay yay. Happy weekend, OneLuffy. Cheers! :)

I can't watch rn so I'm holding off watching the episodes 'til the weekend.
(Btw Friends is a US sitcom from some years ago.)

This better be for reals, WeTV!
Sending good vibes back atcha. :)
LOL. I'm just trying to see the positive in all this. :)
Plus I keep checking this page, just in case there's good news of release soon.
I hope I am wrong tho. Let me be wrong! Air this soon, please?
Still playing patience like the spinster I am.... LOL.
