Gosh, I seriously need a rewatch. I can't remember that the man in black was harvesting the national fortune then. Seems like Didi's beauty is overpowering my comprehension. The only thing I can remember in that scene with the man in black is how beautiful Didi is 🤭

I wish there is an episode-by-episode explanation of the drama. I’m sure I’m missing some details that never occurred to me. I didn’t even think of a book having a qi 😔

This explanation of what happened between Xu Qi An and the Wilderness book made me realize there are many amazing things happening in the drama I'm oblivious of:
"He used the method of looking at qi, which is the method of the sorcerer. There was a scene where he suddenly seemed to think of something, and then he took out the talisman paper. Here he suddenly thought of what his second brother said, that this was a book from the Si Tian Jian. Since it was a book from the Si Tian Jian, he must use the method of the Si Tian Jian sorcerer, so he used the method of looking at qi, and sure enough, the qi in the book appeared. A firm believer of quality over quantity, I'm fully satisfied with the romance angle of this drama. GOTD is male-centric and mystery-driven, so I didn't expect much romance. But every interaction between ML and FL is titillating, from him falling in crush with her at first sight in ep 6, then her gradually developing feelings for him and most recently, their non-cheesy way of confessing their feelings in ep 34.
ML's confession: "Without you, why would I need a rank?"
ML's clarification: "I don't want to be your friend"
FL response: "(Blissful smile) Be careful! I'll wait for you to come back!"

Best part is that both ML and FL know how to kiss, all sweetness and heart. Their kisses are among very few onscreen kisses where I didn't go "ewwww!"

It topped major charts in China in its first 11 days and still among the top even though it has been airing 1 or no episode on weekdays the last two weeks and has been blackened like crazy by paid trolls and haters. It's one of the best cdramas I've ever watched. A funny male-centric drama that manages to have a heart-fluttering romance and well-executed action sequences.

What a brilliant way to serve this message! And showing XQA small as a dot bravely confronting the humongous statue is such a powerful portrait of Didi’s battle with the corrupt C-Ent industry

Every episode keeps increasing my awe and admiration of this masterpiece. The acting, writing, direction, cgi and production quality are all brilliant. Weaving philosophy and comedy into a thrilling action sequence is precious, if not hilarious 🤣 In addition, Didi showed the world what his fans have known all along - that he is a consummate actor.

Episodes 31 and 32 depict a battle of wits, philosophies and personalities. The Tianyu monk created an illusionary formation - an illusion of Yang Ling’s life, showing him to be a “failure” based on the monk’s rules that put too much stock on regrets and sorrows. Note, it’s an illusion so I think Yang Ling’s future can still change, especially after being Xu Qi An. The intention of the illusion was to make XQA lose his mind. XQA countered that each person is different, therefore the monk’s rules shouldn’t be used for him. XQA pointed out that having lived is meaningful enough. Everyone suffers regrets and sorrows but as long as one finds joy in experiences, such as falling in love, eating hotpot and other foods, playing basketball, making short videos, etc., he has led a meaningful life. In the end, XQA left the monk dazed and confused with his assertions 🤣

Why does this seem like a dig at Didi’s haters? One shouldn’t judge a drama based on their own biased and preconceived rules. Rather, viewers should just try to feel and enjoy it. Those who are quick to judge and criticize, instead of experiencing and enjoying a drama, end up being losers.

I felt the romance since ep 6, when Xu Qi An fell in love with Lin An at first sight. And every interaction built up their relationship, yes,even through Lin An ‘s subterfuge about her identity. That her subterfuge didn’t turn Xu Qi An off is quite telling on how much he cares about her, even if he wasn’t aware of it.

About time! His awesome acting skills have been underestimated mainly because many can’t believe that a handsome actor like him can be a good actor too! Well, that’s the main reason I admire him - he is not only incredibly good looking, he is incredibly talented and good hearted too 🥰

True. Haters are either paid trolls or are venting their miserable lives on others. On second thought, paid trolls are also miserable. I can’t think of a more miserable way to earn a living than slandering or harming people.
