He still tried and became friend with people Tess won't ever look at when he's back to his body, manage to get him a job and be at peace with his parents. But he also did it for himself. His life as Tess was easier this way.

If he's the kind of person who thinks he just fails everything so why even try, and knowing he has this bad temper to go with, etc. Maybe failing to keep Talay's job and failing his job with Tun made him give up and play mobile games all day long while being fed by Talay's mum.
