This was nice. I am tired of people saying horrible things about her character. There is a difference between disliking a character and just shitting on the actor because they are seen as weak. Everybody want one type of FL and gets angry when their expectations are not being met despite the summary literally stating who LanHua is.
So far (I’ve only seen 8 episodes), the FL doesn’t have ANY aspirations in life except to repay the God of…
People often are really rude online so I try to be nice even if I disagree :) I find it to very strange how people are so rude over a differing opinion also it is much more interesting to talk through a disagreement than argue.

(I loved Jin Xia in Under the Power) I guess our views on what agency looks like is different. Do I think her aspirations in life are kinda mediocre yes. ( but is that not a form of agency/ being able to choice what you want to do even if it seems mundane and worthless to other people?) I also don't really feel like it is a stretch to compare characters from differing genres because the underlining personality traits of a character is not necessary tied to the plot's genre. For example Kyoko from skip beat (first half) and Sakura Nanase from Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo both are initially similar to Lan Hua. They both want to do something because it is tied to a man but is it inherently wrong for them to want to be somewhere because of a particular person? I don't really thinks so I do want them to have more interesting aspirations in life but I would not say their initial choices lacked agency. If Lan Hua was written like Han Jae Hee in Café Minamdang then I could understand a bit more why people dislike her. (The FL in CM was written to be smart and thorough but throughout the show she kept doing things that contradict her initial introduction) At the end of the day I guess I am not looking for some grand cause for the FL in this show. I do see you point though and I think she will grow in differing ways.
I have a general question for the comment section and that is what do you all consider a well rounded FL. Many of you dislike FL yet like the ML despite them both having flaws. The ML is ruthless and cold while the FL is naïve, nice and believes in the greater good. Is it that people want more characters like Yuan Jin Xia from under the power or is there something else?
You find her passive? I find her a lot of thing but passive was never one of them, she is actually pretty active!…
I mean her main motive is to go home. In the current ep she believes if Dong Fang Qing Cang feels love for her then he will release her so she is planning on finding a way to "heal" him. Her motives make sense we just might not like them she really does not have any emotional ties to the ML other than the "kindness" he has presented to her. You don't have to like the character but to say her actions don't make sense in not completely accurate. If she was written the way most people wanted then she would have lied to him to the point that she betrays him and he get killed and she is then freed. (But that does not match her character at all) Is she super smart no but she is working with what she has so idk
Right it is like we cant have a multitude of different types of FLs in dramas because people have a single image…
The amount of triggers things I have been seeing people say on the internet lately is so concerning. Like we are seeing an uptick in murderous ideologies especially towards women it is gross. (CHOBOM nation rise)
The story is fast paced and the scenary is a breath of fresh air. The costumes are eye catching as well. I just…
I disagree that she is passive (I am also biased because I read the novel). She is weak physically and can only do a certain amount of things. She uses the minimal amount of agency that she has to try to get home. On top of being a character that believes in the inherent goodness of all people (even the villains as seen in the earlier eps). Is she annoying yes but I don't think she is not well written because if you look from her characters perspective you can understand why make the choices that she does. Not all strong female characters have to be badass we would not have this story if she was badass.
fed up of this hate train for the female lead. you people want a perfect character with no flaws who always makes…
This. Tired of the fake feminism displayed in the comment section. IF people were truly feminist they would see the strengths of a character like LanHua. (Wise words from the Markzen)
This drama is making sooo many ppl's ugly sexist face hidden behind the fake feminist mask reveal itself and girl…
Right it is like we cant have a multitude of different types of FLs in dramas because people have a single image of what makes a character strong/interesting. Lan Hua is annoying and cute that is her character charm. I am surprised by the amount of people taking about wanting her harmed just because she can be annoying. Being cute and annoying is not a sin lmao
