And then the entire scene is dedicated to him gushing about Chu Ying. I love how it's shot, too. We never actually…
I agree with you. I was so sure that I wouldn't watch this and just wanted to check out ep 1 cos I knew it was an anime remake but the first few minutes literally sold me. Very few things have made me fall in love in the first few minutes and they rarely disappoint me later and this was and is still a gem to me. I'd never seen anything like it. Shi guang was truly a ray of sunshine(real in a way teenage boys can be and all the more endearing for it) and the more I rewatch, the more things I discover and love. It's one of my very favorite shows from any country. First cdrama also so I started at the top for sure.
And Hong He is the bestest friend ever, I want a friend like him and hope I can also be a friend like him. My only gripe is it's too short!! I wanted to see more of the competition with him and Yu liang but apart from that, it's all ♥️♥️♥️
I find myself uncomfortable with how most of the casts acted their role. Some feels cringy and some feels over…
It's not just you, I struggled just the same and it was weird cos I wanted to like it but the overall acting was really throwing me off and the stories ended up not being that good to me. But I almost rolled my eyes into the back of my throat when Naoya was running all hunched and weird at episode 8. I get that he walks hunched for whatever reason but he also runs hunched 🙄. I just felt someone should have said that makes no sense. Not even sure why that stuck out to me but it really did and irritated me.
Let's start with the important part of my review which is, the actor that plays Gu tao is gorgeous. One of the finest Asian men I've seen. I even loved his hair especially in his working out scenes, I just wanted to help push it back 🤭. But then in his black suits, sometimes I'd literally pause and be like what even am I seeing?!?😳😳🤣
To less important things 😁... I think they missed a chance to tell a deep story about how an undercover agent can be genuinely torn about betraying someone who he's gotten to really know and shared truly deep moments with and how that doesn't make the criminal good but it makes them human and sometimes if we got to truly know and create intimate bonds with others and understood certain things about them then things aren't so black and white anymore. Especially as would happen with him needing to be in so deep . I guess it was my bad cos I went in thinking it'd be like watching the backstory of a story from the American TV series FBI where a guy who'd been undercover for a while says he knew he was in too deep when he shared stories about his dad and the criminal he was working on shared true stories too, over drinks and they cried together and he felt like that was his brother in that moment, someone he had a real connection with. Fang mo really bypassed that hardship and was very intent to the end which I guess some can be but I'd have preferred a deeper struggle with it all.
Anyway it was fun for what it was but the emotional gravitas of going in so deep and having to topple it all especially where Gu tao was concerned was missing for me hence my score.
