Yes, even in a drama it's unrealistic that they are so obsessively devoted to just one person since childhood. They probably exist in real life, but I've personally never met anyone like that. I'm curious if anyone one has.

Ah Nian's mother looks the same as Xiao Yao's mom.
At least as far as I know, she is just a doppelganger, possibly to evoke raw emotion from the female lead who still longs for her mother and feels she abandoned her by going to war and dying there and to show that the King Haoling had not moved on from and still longs for her mother despite it being unrequited love.
