Loved this drama so much. I do have to say that they already had a lot going for me because of the source material. Priest is my favorite BL author. I just love how Priest can write about trauma and how it can impact the lives of the characters. This drama did not disappoint. I have to say that I loved the actors that they picked for the main characters. They showed a great chemistry. Will definitely be rewatching it a lot of times.
is not about the nationality- is the quality which are two different things , Taiwan has always had a more “…
That is definitely true. It is not blaming the country or nationality for the quality of a BL but more that certain countries have a certain way of making not just BL's but also normal series. Like for example Korean drama's are well known for scenes like a man walking in the rain with his umbrella and raising it and their eyes meet. That is something typical for Korean drama's. Doesn't make it bad or less good it just is something that happens more in those drama's. Korean BL's are overall more cute with scenes like that. Taiwanese are most of the time more centered around a character development with the main characters having a trauma that they need to work through which they do together. Japanese tend to be very cute or very for a lack of better word 'erotic'. Japanese BL's go one way or the other. In all honesty it is actually good that there is a difference in the kinds of BL's that there are available. Sometimes you just want to watch a cute love story and sometimes you want the complex love story. It is sad that some people would say that because they like the BL's of a certain country more that that means that it is superior. Everyone has their preferences in what kind of story they like to see. If you don't like it don't watch it.
Under The Skin was a drama that ended the season with a kinda cliffhanger. I hoped that they would make another season but with Chinese drama's you never know but.....There is already a second season on it's way. They haven't said yet when the second season will air but there is one.
I'm so happy that both the main actors decided to come back. A new season of a series in China always has me worried that the actors are not coming back especially when actors have been only getting more popular since the airing of the first season. I look forward to the next season so much. I hope that we can find out something about Shen Yi's past.
As a fan, I see this coming. and to be honest, I think Rowoon's decision to back down from group activities is…
I didn't know that he had an injury. So sad that kpop artists always feel like they have to apologize for choosing their mental and physical health over being a kpop idol.
They are actually having a copyright issue and a law dispute is ongoing. Because the drama was stopped on the…
Exactly, every series no matter if there is no BL scenes or even an insinuation of them being gay, as long as the series is based on a BL novel it will not be allowed to air. There have been some bromances that aired that have not been based on any BL books and they did not have issues with airing it.
It was removed from youku streaming platform (in China, last time I checked it was still available on the international…
Mmm that is also what my mind is at right now. Waiting is useless. I for example have been waiting for Immortality since the beginning and it has been years. People keep saying that the government might change their rules but to be honest not much has changed in the last few years so I don't expect BL adaptations to air anytime soon. There is an animation that is being made of the book or is already finished that I can't wait to watch.
It is really sad that they decided to cancel it and not show the rest despite how much work was put into it from the actors side and the production crew. I understand that censorship is hard in China but it would have been nice to at least see the important moments played out. I am always going to be sad about not having seen that when Zhang Xin Cheng did such a good job portraying this character.
Can't youku drop all the episode at once and lie that they got hacked later. Please
Haha I wished that that would happen as well or that they would find a way to share some parts in ways to circumvent the censorship like killer and healer managed to but sadly it didn't.
Let’s hope let’s hope ! At this point, I’d accept anything, just to get closure.
Yes so true. It has been way too long. I do hope that they haven't cut the important scenes from the book. The rest I am not that worried about. That is what imagination is for.
The whole “youku is holding the drama for more vip subscribers” do not make any sense. If there is something…
Was thinking the same thing. Maybe because the series resembled the book so much that the government decided to pull the series to make it go through censorship again and maybe more strict censorship. The idea that Youku would put it on hold to get more money is a little odd to me. If they would then the smart thing to do would be to drop an few episodes every 3 weeks or max 4 weeks so people will keep being subscribed. Now people can unsubscribe and then go back when the Serie has ended so this doesn't really make sense.
I agree with you. I read the book too. I very satisfied with the adaptation. I feel more engaged is the adaptation…
So true. When the adaptation is close to the book is better than a adaptation that is so far from the book but has BL scenes. Besides I agree with you that this series is about more than a gay relationship. I love that from the books from Priest because most of them don't have the relationship as the main thing that it has going for itself but is intriguing and interesting also because of the storyline around it.
how is it queer baiting when it's based on a BL novel ? queer baiting is when it's "would they or wouldn't they"…
Sadly enough couldn't agree more with the fact that censorship wins. This is controlled by a government that I think if I am being frank probably will not change anytime soon. Yes I have to agree that in some things they have become pretty lax especially with series with straight couples and sometimes with bromance. There are a lot of good bromance series but I think that for the government BL is a really big boundary that they won't easily cross.
Yes it is true that now there is more audience for the books the books are a lot easier to be found on the internet translated in English so that is a really big positive thing that came out of this.
I have read the book and love the series so far. Many of the scenes of the book were added in the series. Unpopular opinion maybe but I actually like the actor Zhang Xin Cheng's portrayal more than the character in the book to be honest. He really portrays Pei Su as a man who has a dark past and borders on the line of sanity and insanity. Am I sad that the BL aspect is erased? Yes of course but unlike the League Of Nobleman this series can be watched without BL scenes and still be a great series. The League Of Nobleman was also one that aired this year and the difference in quality is really noticeable. In The League Of Nobleman they erased the BL scenes which created weird cut scenes and destroyed the story line. I can't wait for the rest of the episodes to air and hope that the series was not put on hold to go through censorship again. That will probably end up ruining it.
It was under hyped! No promotions, yet it was starting to trend on Weibo and crawled on Youku’s top 10 dramas…
I hope so too. Really hope that they didn't put in on hold because the government found out it was being aired with a lot of the book still in it. Hope that they air the rest as soon as possible.
