No, it was the situation where neither could act otherwise even if they wanted to. Neither was wrong, she gave him a 'choice', but in fact there was no choice for him. Lives of 5 brothers vs. ignore it all and happily live a life of love with his wife. That's not a choice!

My my, 'genocide of thousands of lives'. His perception of demon is just evil beings. Maybe he was thinking of the place as a dark and dingy one where some demons are committing and planning more evil. It was faaaar from his imagination that it was a bustling city full of all kinds of demons. When he broke into it, his intent was to save the brothers from the harm he pictured.
Is WZS evil? Yes, quite. However, he was credited with much more evil in the comments here.
He hears Changming talk about MZY and suspects him of being related to Changxi Palace, that's the day he goes to MZY and threatens him not to harm WZ. (Of course, he also pretends to be very intimate with WZ, but that's regular SML stuff)
After the unfolding of events today, it's clear that nobody knew WZ had the infant fiend's core in her, including the elder grey, WZS and WZ. So, when her body was being too weak to hold the power within, it wasn't him behind it, it was due to the core and he actually thought that her giving up of the human body and becoming a full demon was the solution. (Of course, his way of turning her into a full demon wasn't too noble either)
He may have been a follower or supporter of the fiend infant, but he wasn't THE one behind the heavenly fire. (Of course, he still is evil by association)
No intentions of fighting, just curious, why do you think he has to redeem himself for choosing to enter the demon…

They both were thinking at different wavelengths at that time, she was thinking he'll enter and will destroy whatever he finds, he on the other hand wanted to save his brothers from the immediate danger first and maybe resolve the issue between them later.
