I've heard this freaked people out in the first week because it was so creepy. Are certain elements still as heavy, or have they toned them down (I see the genre, so I don't expect it to be free of them)?
I guess I put off this season for more than one reason. I love Soo Ji. Dae Young (in S2) and Sang Woo? Not so much. I feel like this drama has taken a super important topic, of weight issues and what could possibly be described as an eating disorder, and watered it down to comedy. Dae Young, as the male lead and Soo Ji's "saviour" as a child, should know better than to constantly refer to her as Baek Dwaeji (Pig). It is weird that this is his habit. I'm just not feeling him at all, and it's sad because I adored him in season 1. Even Sang Woo laughed at her nickname in episode 3. The guys are so disappointing, and so is the handling of her weight issues and body image.
I loved the sisterhood in Moon Lovers, which is the reason I watched it for such a long time. Firstly, Hae Soo and Myung Hee (Lady Hae) as cousins. She took care of Hae Soo like a mother. But also Hae Soo and Chae Ryung, their bond was probably the strongest. Not to forget Oh Sang Goong's guidance and sacrifices for Hae Soo, she was very much a friend and support for Hae Soo. I loved Oh Sang Goong to bits and pieces, and admired her will to protect Hae Soo to make sure she didn't make the same mistakes as she made. It is definitely true that "bromance" occurs more often in a lot of dramas. That's why I'm always paying more attention to the female characters - there is always something there :') In the recent years, there have also been more female characters, and even females in both protagonist and antagonist roles (Perfect Wife, Woman of Dignity).
K-dramas with dominating, or very visible, F/F friendships: Mama (2014), Maids (2014), Age of Youth (2017), Dream High (2011), Ex-Girlfriend Club (2015), High Society (2015), King2Hearts (2012), Legendary Witch (2014), Let's Eat (2013), Lily Fever (2015), One More Happy Ending (2016), Lucky Romance (2016), Miss Korea (2013), On The Way To The Airport (2016), Protect the Boss (2011), Queen In Hyun's Man (2012), Queen of Mystery (2017), Something about 1% (2016), Twenty Again (2016), Two Weeks (2013), You're the Best Lee Soon Shin (2013).
I probably missed out on tons of dramas, but I hope you're exposed to more female friendships. They're just great ♡
